turbo runner build
« on: Nov 30, 2009, 10:20:51 PM »
Hi everyone! My name is Erik and my truck is called the SNOW WALKER. It's a 1986 4runner. Started stock with white wall tires. :thumbdown:I did a sas wrangler springs and 35's. Phase 2 was a hammer to the firewall 38.5 baja claws and a high pinion electric locker, welded rear diff and duals.
And I added an 1800lb act clutch. Also added longs, hub gears and arp hub studs. I have now started phase 3. I made a soft top, custom winch bumper  with 12,500 t-maxx,rear bumper with swing out tire carrier. And now for the good stuff. A built factory turbo motor with eagle rods forged pistons with moly rings. It's balanced and blueprinted. I added a t3/t4 hybrid turbo with innercooler. I put in the turbo trans with new mc07-r10 23 spline front and rear with bobby long output shaft. I loved the claws for the snow but needed money for the build so I sold them and got some 42 tsl's and grooved hell out of them. I'm in the process of putting in a taco rear. I am planning to put ruf to get rid of the allpro 3' front springs I put in during phase 2. They sagged out after 1 year and now look like an S. Man they suck! I need to finish the duals and do the taco rear gears and weld it up. Well that's about it for now, let me know what you think!

Thank you so much for posting my pics! I should get some more pics this weekend. My brother in law is coming over to help me stab the trans on Saturday. We need to adjust the valves and stab the distributor. Then we can mount the tires and put on the rear springs up front. I hope it will have enough lift to clear the tires. If not I will lower the bump stops.

That inTercooler looks just like one I had... where'd you get it from? I always wondered why Toyota didn't IC their turbo trucks... if you do any mods to it check out crawlerdan's info; he's got a 2JZ and some fancy IC set-up now.

I got squat... but you got a nice rig dude!  :beerchug:

I got the whole turbo setup off ebay. The IC came from cxracing. It should make 185 to 200 hp.It depends on what boost I run. I live at 4600 ft up here in belgrade MT. I'm planning on 12 to 16 lbs of boost witch will be fine with the stock injectors. Again because of the sea level height.
A buddy of mine has the same setup on a stock 22ret. It has lasted for 3 years with over 200,000 miles on it.

Well I got the output shaft in what a pain in the ass! I also got the 23 spline input in the rear case. We went to bolt the low range box to the adapter and found the 23 spline coupler shaft was missing! I ordered this kit almost 1 year ago. I left it on my shelf in the garage unopened. I have three kids and didn't want to open it for them to get into. I called marlin and told them what I was missing  yesterday and they sent it out today, with a free shirt! Most company's would tell me to piss off! These guys are awesome!

Well I tried to put in the trans and t-cases on sunday but it was too cold and the jack would not go all the way up. And it's way too heavy to bench press it in. I took the jack in the house to warm up. I'll try again tomorrow.

Well I got the trans in and the duels. I tried to fire it up for the first time. The starter would not engage with the key! The turbo harness has two black wires and was a little different. My buddy turbo Luke figured this out. It will now fire with the key. But it will only run for 2 seconds and then it will die. It purrs like a kitten and then dies. It has fuel and while cranking spark. I had this problem with another truck and it turned out to be the black wire with a red stripe coming from the coil igniter box going over the motor to the main harness and into the ecu. The wire appears to be intact. But when it enters into the main harness it's imposible to tell if it is broken. tonight it's -15 outside and waaay to cold to check it. Has anyone else had a this  problem before?
