Heater blows hot then cools off
« on: Oct 20, 2009, 06:09:11 PM »
I've been searching this topic pretty thouroughly and alot of guys are bypassing the control valve and that seems to work good but my valve operates freely and doesn't feel broken or sticky.  This is on my 85 4Runner when I first got it I had to do the garden hose trick to clean out the heater core and it worked great.  But recently I've replaced the head water pump and front engine components and the heater doesn't work properly?  Help :inthedark:

ide try giving it the hose again. maybe a piece of gasket or somthing found its way to the heater core when the work was being done ?

did you put the rubber grommet thing around the thermostat??

if its not the thermostat will kinda float around letting the coolant slip past and then it wont heat the water up right and also doesnt force the coolant thru the heater core as fast

when i did mine i used one of those cone shaped high pressure nozzles, insert hose into the heater core inlet hose and use the hose clamp to keep it ther, turn hose to full blast let run for a couple min.switch to heater core outlet, repeat several times.oh and to be able to use the hose clamp i rapped duct tape around the cone shaped high pressure nozzle.i also used an air compressor in the same way but the garden hose did the real work.a freind suggested i find a way to use the hose and air comp at the same time but i didnt take it that far

so you insert the hose and let the water overflow out of the radiator then?  or do you unhook the hose on the other end of the core?
