General Dual case questions
« on: Aug 15, 2009, 05:31:58 PM »
I have a 85 PU with dual cases and standard gears in both cases. Thinking about going to 4.7 in rear because I have some leaks to deal with anyway. Some tranny and some case leaks. Nothing too bad but enough to drip in the garage. I am not a mechanic but can perform most tasks if guided. Can you direct me to any links for general trans/case removal threads. I have seen the info on changing to 4.7 once the cases are out. I figue I have to replace all the seals and try to find the tranny leak as well. Thanks in advance.

Thanks....saw that info and it will be helpful for the gear change. When I remove the cases do I have to drop the trans as well? I assume you support the tran and cases and remove the skid plate and drive shafts and drop the cases and the trans then separate for suspected leak in the trans?

I leave the trans in and put a jack stand under it towards the rear.
