Now doesnt a bilge pump need to be submerged in the water?  So if I wanted to run say a 16gallon tank with the 3/8 outlets wouldnt i need some sort of 12v inline pump, since those tanks are sealed up besides the small inlets and outlets.  I like the exhaust idea but would also like to be able to run the shower setup on the trailer INDEPENDENT of the truck if necessary, so im thinking some sort of propane alternative as a heating element and a rechargeable powerstation to run the pump maybe?

Just throwin around ideas, i gotta finish the basic trailer first haha....
well with the bilge pump you could would have to mount it in the tank or jsut drop it in whenever u wanted to use it. yes you need a 12 set up to run it, not sure but look on the bilge pump inlet and see if you can hook a hose up to it then you could just drop the hose in the tank.

Got the trailer back to my house since im waiting on engine parts, and got a little done today.
Lights mounted, but not wired, most of the welds finished and painted, oh and i threw those tubes around the lights, mostly cuz they look cool (inspired by trophy truck side mirrors)

Sorry for the crappy night pics...

I got another ? for you guys.  Whats the story on the inspection to get the plate for this thing?  I've heard they are no big deal, and they dont even really look at it closely, but am curious about a few things. Would it be best to run some stock, small tires for the inspection so that my fenders cover more than 3/4 of the tire?  Are they going to give me flak because its kinda a hodge podge of custom frame, truck springs and axles, etc and it doesnt have conventional tongue bracing?  From what ive read I will be registering it as a UTILITY TRAILER.  For its intended weight and capacity, I feel like its plenty strong and safe....i mean, ive seen way worse gettin pulled around... Anyone gone through the process of registering a custom build trailer?

crawlerdad

Where are you with the trailer at this point? We have high expectations and want to see some results! Just kidding. But I would like how progress is.

IF somebody can get one of those crappy HF POS's registered for street use, you shouldn't have any issues. Maybe call the DMV or Highway Patrol before hand and see exactly what they'll be checking?

Been hauling :moon: the last couple days.... Its gettin there!!!
Got the fenders on and the side supports and tailgate built yesterday, and the wood panels and floor in today.

Heres the tailgate...mitered all the joints

Inside view of the wood sides and floor...alot harder than i was thinkin to get the panels all lined up with no gaps. not perfect but itll do...

:thumbs:Run a bead of caulk on the seams and they will look a little cleaner. Make sure that the wood will handle the weather. Other than that It looks awesome. Are you going to build a lid for it or tarp it?

Yea...keeping with the budget i went with crappy particle board for the floor, knowing that ill be lucky if it makes it through the summer.  My dad is going to cut me a piece of nice plywood at his work to go on top of it though...The sides have a vinyl coating on the outside so hopefully they will be okay for awhile.  If nothing else I will have some templates to cut out nice wood or sheetmetal panels later...

Im still planning on making a ridgid, bifolding lid for it with a locking paddle latch to secure everything.  I think i showed it in the sketch up model I did on the first page..

Try coating the particleboard in fiberglass resin on the outside, then use roll on bedliner on the inside, that'd be about as good as you can get it if using particleboard. DON'T put alot of heavy objects with small footprints in there though.

Did you make the fenders detachable for quick removal at the trailhead? With the trailer loaded down your tires will proabably munch the fenders as it is.....

82juguete

No, the fenders are permanent, but those tires arent stayin.  Some smaller, narrower ones with better clearance will be going on soon, so hopefully it will work out.  Plus, Ill be embarrased if my trailer flexes more than my truck haha

put bumpstops on so it cant travel up and munch the the fenders :dunno:

but i agree with the fiberglass resin and bedliner idea.

Please just ditch the particle board and get some plywood. Marine grade would be best. You could even give it a coat of paint before you install it to give it further weather protection. I think you are going to have problems with the particle board. I have used it for projects and as soon water hits it it turns to crap. I know the budget is important but be careful what you sacrifice.

Well I just spent about 3 hours doing something that shouldve took about 20 minutes... Oh well, i got to play with the airbrush at least.

It started because i thought the trailer tailgate looked too plain...
So first I did a charcoal rubbing on the TOYOTA letters on my trucks tailgate:

82juguete

Once I got that I did the LOOOOOOOONG process of creating a mask out of the letters..and centered it on the trailertailgate:

82juguete

Here was my original plan in action, making a subtle, ghosted embossed shading on the letters to make them look like they were popping out slightly...

82juguete

but i wasnt happy at all with the result!  My lines were just wavy enough to make it look like I failed at trying to make something look very precise.  Whatever...

In hindsight I wouldve needed to get some diecut decals to use as stencils or something..

Anyway, I already had the airbrush out so I decided to go for a different approach:

I think i just might keep it...we'll see.
Whatdya think???

Yea you're right it is pretty thin, but I had to keep in mind that ill be pulling it with my gutless truck so the weight savings will be worth it. I honestly dont think itll be a problem, but ill keep a careful eye out for stress cracks etc. when i actually start using it.

Talon84x4

Trailer looks good and I really like the artwork too.

As far as what someone said above, I don't think the fenders will be too much of a problem when flexing because it is a trailer and there will be nothing opposing it from twisting like with a truck.

I had also heard somewhere that CA was no longer going to be allowing the new registration of trailers that use truck axles, don't quote me on it but it would be something to check on.  :dunno:

Whats next on the list? Have you tried the DMV yet?
Precision guess work done here.

82juguete

I tried calling DMV today, but you know how that goes, and i never got through... Im close enough now that i may just find out when i go to try and get it licensed.  Ive heard that they stopped allowing truck axles and ive heard of people registering truck bed type trailers with truck axles no problem less than a year ago, so no real definitive answer yet....
