Doing engine swap..have a couple questions.
« on: May 09, 2009, 08:01:32 PM »
The 20r in my 79' took a crap on me. So Im putting in a motor that came with my parts truck that ran really good. I thought it was a 22r cause it had a 22r valve cover and the parts truck is an 83'. But it has a 20r head. Is there any way I can tell if the block itself is a 22 or a 20 without pullng the head off? And a P/O put a w56 in the truck. The throwout bearing was all jimmy rigged with zip ties and the fork didn't seem right. Wich fork should I have with this motor that I'm putting in? Thanks for any help

you'll need the clutch parts for the w56, which would be any efi truck or 4runner

the block id is just behind the alternator on the block,  you'll see the serial number for the block then either 20R  or 22R

if its a 22R with a 20R head :woohoo:  cause thats a MOTOR BABY :woohoo:   you'll like that   (assuming it was done right)

Well looks like it's a 20r block. Oh well, it's better than what was in the truck. I still have 22r exhaust and weber carb.

Any suggestions on where to find a w56 clutch fork?
