yota krawler's Dads 1981...update
« on: Apr 11, 2009, 09:45:40 AM »
So my Dad bought this truck back in 88. It was an 81 sr5 short bed with sunroof 22r 5speed, with 3.90s turnin 33s with a mild 3inch suspension lift. He wheeled it in the high lakes back in the day with all his buddys. It did pretty good considering the times. He got a better job so we moved out to Utah in 92-93. I was 5 years old. On the way it blew a head gasket. So when we got into our new abode he pushed it into the garage and started to work on it. He purchased a buick v-6 and built that up. With a turbo 350 trans and dual cases. He bought 5.29s and a lockrite for the rear. Now remember this was back in maybe 94-95. So we had to move again and we put all our :pokinit: into a storage unit, and it was broken into. So all the parts he had been saving to build this thing were gone. The only thing left was the motor, tranny and the 35s. So it sat, not getting any attension until this year. I took him up to the high lakes in my extra cab. he was so impressed that he started budgeting to get to work on his toy. So now we have came up with some plans for it and we want to get it ready for the round up this year.

So it has no motor, or tranny.

He wants to put a 22re in it with a w56 and duals. Rears up front with f150s out back. d44/12 bolt with 5.38s spool rear and lockrite front. Bob and dove tail. Custom front and rear bumpers with rock sliders and roll bar. On board air, winch, and all the other goodies. I am tryin to talk him into putin it on 40s but he wants 37 toyos...

we have a parts truck, well really its a great truck I runs hella good and is on 31x10.50s with centerline wheels. It has 221,XXX on it. Its and 86 with a forward shift t-case. No reason why it couldnt be used as a DD but we bought it for parts.

We have the axles, I am taking his SFA and putting it under my 4runner.

Any guy who takes his woman wheeling enjoys her. A woman who is owned is left at home to cook, clean, and keep beer cold. So if this offends you you should stop looking and go have some tacos.    :rofl2: And a beer. If your old enough.   :beerchug:

I wish my old man gave a :pokinit: about wheeling or wrenching or even appreciating a well built or restored vehicle... he is lost and doesn't care to be found. My 4runner is a worthless money pit to him I couldnt even get him to come wheeling with me ONCE....

Looks to be a good build, keep us posted....

i cleaned up the interior, cleaned out the bed, and put in some s10 seat I had from a parts blazer. The look pretty good. We plan to rhino line the floor and thats about it for the inside.

We droped te front axle and got the front hanger tacked on and both rears in place. The f150s are just tacked on as well.

next saturday we plan the set the d44 and get the IFS box on. the f150s need to be welded and 12bolt placed. Then we will start pulling the motor out of the parts truck and set it in the 81
