:-\\well,  i just dont know,  i pulled the motor out today and dismantled it for the trip to the machine shop, $80 for boring and $90 for a set of .040 pistons,  i thought he meant each, but he said for all  :ladys-man:    so thats not too bad,  not like the $115 each for LC forged pistons

i have thought about getting the top end  from that celica and getting all the efi parts,   Mike,  what all would i need?? efi computer, o2sensor?????

man, you need everything that has a plug and wire to it, including the efi fuel tank.. Also your carb throttle cable wont reach the throttle body, so you're need an efi throttle cable. Make sure you get everything from the dash forward including both the cab fuse box and the engine fuse box. Make sure you get the ignitor and all vacuum control solenoids. Also, the crowl wiring harness will have the Opening Circuit Relay which is required for the fuel pump operation. Also grab the clutch start kill switch, or just jump it with a paper clip.

Have fun :best:

Well same still applies either celica or truck, the only difference is that the chassis harness wont have a plug for the 4WD light indicator lamp ;)

A RAT? hahaha try a black widow inches from your nuts while under a rig in the dark and then with your flashlight you just happen to look around and there he is. happened to me one time at the shop, and I just froze, and slowly moved to the side and then got up and jumped around like I had ants in my pants. That was crazy, really woke me up too :)

:headscratch:  HOW MUCH DOES A 20R HEAD ON A 22R HELP? CUASE I'M DOING A NEW DUAL TIMMING CHAIN AND GUIDE ON MY 84 AND HAVE A 20 AND 22R HEAD READY TO GO BUT I'M UN SURE OF HOW MUCH IT HELPS
Sounds like more tree huggin hippie bull :pokinit:

79coyotefrg

from what ive seen and heard the 20R can handle higher rpms than the 22, like over 4500rpm, so unless you go screaming down the interstate passing everybody at 5500rpm like i do then you might get better torque from the 22
ive been running the 20/22 awhile and had super results,  but since i was given a 81 22R motor the other day i might try the 22 head, esp since its been decked,   just a word of warning, if you get a cam dont get over a .440 lift or you better notch those pistons , wanna know how i know that  :rivers:

:hammer: well im going to use the 22R head ,it turns out its been ported and the intake and exhaust ports are HUGE, stock 20 valves will almost fall thru this 22's seats  :usa:

block is getting bored to .060 since it wouldnt cleanup at .040

Wait, I thought 20R head used larger valves than 22R ? And that's one of the reason it flows better? I think this because I thought I remember Marlin telling me that one time he tried using 20R valves in a 22R head. He had to grind out the 22R head seats to a larger size to accomidate the 20R larger valves.

Am I making any sense? :hammerhead:

I was told by a head shop that the 22r had bigger valves than the 20r but the dude might have been wrong  :dunno:
87 runner, 4" trailmaster lift, 33" TSL/SX, 5.29's V6 e-locker, 22re that cost too much

not much difference in the exhaust valves 1mm,  but intake valves are like 46mm,HUGE MAN
my 20r intakes are 44mm my 22 intakes are 46 or 46.5 obviously oversize from stock,  :drooling:  the 20R  exhaust valve will almost pass completely thru the intake port

ok guys,   if the 44044's give a waggy 2 1/2 " lift and a toy 5 inches,  then stock waggys would give about 3 inches ???  right

Hey BigMike,  the stock 22r valves are .5mm bigger than the aftermarket oversize 20r valves, so runnin the oversize aftermarket 22r valves in the 20r head is the way to go.  And to all that were talkin about it, it's not the valve size per say that makes a hybrid a better option, it's(from what I understand) a MUCH better flowing intake manifold and better shaped combustion chambers, but I could be wrong on the chamber thingy, hafta axe my brother on that one.  Sorry I couldn't be more concise, but I thought I'd try and clear it up a little with what I do know,  Nate

:ack: well  heres a update,   the celica motor is toast, i mean literally toast :flamer: i had to drive over 100 miles home with the rad cap off so the exhaust could escape,  yes you read that right  had to stop every 10 miles for water,  :_oops: but i made it home in just over 3 hours,   apparently a blown head gasket,  but maybe a busted block now since it was 20* outside and the motor got past the H on the temp gauge a few times,  when i poured the water in it would hit the block and blow steam back out the rad like old faithful.

so today it comes apart  to assess the damage,  no water in the oil so maybe not too bad    may just drive sis's jeep till tax refund time so i can do the "bigHybrid"

:smack: well,  we drove the jeep one day then totalled it,   so now we are back,

well i have Hypeuretic KB pistons on the way from BeckRacing in Nevada, $80/set

22 block will be bored  to 93.5 mm crank is 91mm stroke and completely balanced,  rods have new brass in small end and have been stress relieved and shotpeened, and balanced end to end.    when pistons arrive bottom end will get put together,    :driving: after numerous calculations  i have figured my compression ratio to be 10.3:1     :disturbed: plasm rings
20R head is being fitted with 22R valve seats,  i will finish porting when i get it back from Machine shop

i have got to find a L52  to go in this thing as i dont think the old L43 will survive this badboy   :shudder:

i think i need some arp headbolts  :drooling:
