Crawlerdan comes clean....and rebuilds
« on: Feb 15, 2009, 01:57:57 PM »
well, ive let few know what happened to my runner, and even then only partially.
well, im ready to talk now

in mid november my truck popped out of gear on my farm and rolled down a large hill, gained momentum to about 30mph, and hit a big tree. the impact was hard enough that the truck came off the ground, and pivitod around the tree 90 deg.

the pass side headlight was put into the firewall.
it broke the pass side leaf spring
obviously ruined all sheetmetel from the firewall foreward
bent the frame severly

so we moved early this month, and i now have a large shop to work in
so in went the runner and repairs have begun.

plans are- fix the frame with 1/4 wal tube following factory lines
new steering links and box
new front bumper
a winch
new sheetmetel and paint later on

so far all ive done is strip her, buy new sheet metel, and cry

here are what pics i have

the first is with the hood on, and the second is with it off

all that at just 30?  and by headlight into firewall you mean headlight into core support? I dont see the how the headlight could have gone into the firewall without there being more done to whats in the pics  :twocents:

Damn that sucks Dan! Sorry to hear the bad news. But look at it this way, could have been worse and at least no one got hurt.

Maybe you should get one of them thar fancy emergincie brakes?
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

Bummer dan, but why hide it from us :dunno:  It's not like you were drivin down the road, saw a couple dudes walkin without shirts, got distracted and ran into a tree.  It just popped out of gear.  Good luck on getting it all back together, looks like fun!
