HYsteer question
« on: Jan 04, 2009, 01:50:20 PM »
I have 3.5" lift with a solid axle toy, can I use front shackles to lift to 5 or 6  inches in front? if so how long to they need to be and where can I find them? or before ya'll say it should I just get a 6inch pack and shock hoops? and all that.
I want to get Histeer  as my next project but I have to have 4 inches min, right?

You can do whatever you want !  About 2 " of shackle for about 1" lift.  Your shackle angle could get worse but who knows.

All of the shackle lift in the world is not going to change how the axle is going to sit on the springs. When they say you need at least a 4" lift, they are talking about the springs. What type of springs do you have to get 3.5" lift?

if you want to keep 3.5 inch lift springs just get some 2 inch longer shackles and you'll have room for highsteer.  I would just make sure and mount the steering box as far forward as you can for when you do get new springs and shock mounts.

How do you figure that, moving the back of the springs down will not change how the axle is going to sit on the springs. All it is going to do is to chance the pinion and caster angle.

When they state min 4" of lift needed, it's so the TRE doesn't collide with the oil pan.  A longer shackle would help in this case.

I've got 2.5" of *lift* My TRE hits the Pan on full compression.  A longer shackle would move the pan further away from the TRE.

At least that's how I understand it.

You'll need 2" of shackle to lift the truck 1".  So, ~5" of additional shackle length to raise it 2.5".  This should make for an extremly long shackle.

na a body lift is not gonna help, I might go with the drop hanger and shackles, or just a set of new springs. I got the springs from a 4wheel place that went out of business he in my hometown. they were rough country. the whole lift was only 100 bucks. could not pass it up. shocks and front springs. hardware and ubolts complete lift for a bill.  its a 3.5 in lift I have blocks in the rear and I want to get rid of those asap, lol.

new springs would be the best option.   Post up some pics if you can.

OK my thinking was in the wrong direction on the clearence issue, sorry. While the longer shackles will help you out, if you go to long it will mess up your pinion and caster angle. Then if you go to correct it with shims the tierod will be hitting the springs.
