G'day, Erren here from Queensland Australia... thought I might check in and keep up to scratch with what's happening in the US 4by scene. I drive an '04 SR5 Hilux with not alot of mods yet... rancho 9's in the rear, bilstien's in the front, a front ARB, 2" body lift and Micky T's on black Rock Crawlers. Still an IFS ATM, will be a few years before the plasma can come out for some SAS time... meanwhile I'll just read and learn so I can get a plan together for the Lux

Cheers
E

dude i totally love your hilux. what type of IFS does it have? 04 American trucks ran coil type but that doesn't look like it is coil type.

eMOJO

Cheers mate, the IFS on these are the same as the '95 P/U in the US... T/Bar fixed to the upper control arm. The only decent fix for these is a plasma cutter and SAS

dude thats awesome i totally want one now or even a crew cab 3rd gen sased would be so awesome. so you can buy a sas kit and it would fit right up to it right? if so you better get on it

eMOJO

Yep, TG, Marlin and Allpro do a kit that will fit... just not sure on the steering setup yet with the Marlin and Allpro but the TG kit is the main one sold in Aus for a SAS (right hand drive) and also has the 3" spring packs which the others don't seem to do any more??? I'd prefer a Marlin but I'll have to see what I can get spring wise

one the 4 inch springs settle its about 3.5 3 inch and im sure they could make a right hand drive for you i would highly suggest marlin the steering arms from TG are cast steel and tend to break

eMOJO

Yeah I've heard that about the TG stuff... it is cheaper but that's prob one of the reasons. Settling to 3" may be OK as we have pretty strict DOT rules for modification over here in QLD (prob the worst in Aus) so I could live with a total lift of 4" - this would include the extra height with relocating the hangers... I'm assuming  and just pluck my body lift out

:welcome:  your pics look pretty much like they could have been taken on any given trail up here in northern california!  You guys seem to have a lot of strict laws there.  Do you still have super strict gun laws?

You can go through life being scared of the possible, or you can have a little fun and tease the inevitable.

Give a man venison, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to hunt Blacktail, he'll be frustrated for life!

eMOJO

Yeah we got some really tough trails here in Aus, just nothing like Hammers or Moab - unless they allow us to drive over Aires Rock

...yep gun laws are still really strict, I sold all my stuff before the buy-back so I could get a good price, but because I live in the city I can't get a licence now - even though I plan on doing heaps of trips up north into croc country and the outback

Wow, been looking at my 4Runner rust away too long, need some inspiration and here I will find it...!

85 Toyota 4Runner, solid axle, 22Re, original paint and graphics and not a straight panel to be found!

GJToyotabug

yeah with the hanger and all is a 4inch lift i do believe

eMOJO

Thanks GJ, I'll start looking more closely at the Marlin setup then

marlins is a great setup. i would call and ask about a right hand drive steering arms. is it a right hand drop T-case? and what type of T-case is it?

eMOJO

Yeah it's a right hand drop case (front shaft comes out on the drivers side), not sure on the model of the case but it is chain driven and bolts up to the R151r box... bit of a bugger if I just want to do gears I'll need a gear driven case  :( $$

Chaindrive and bolts up to an R151F??? are you sure you don't mean R150? You overseas guys have weerd stuff though...

Duffil

Just wondering...we have quite a few guys on here from AU...what is the distance from QLD to WA? One of our members LOCKTUP went down to Perth last year and did some work and wheelin.

eMOJO

Yep, we have all sorts of older technology mounted up to the newer stuff ie torsion bars finished late 2004 on the Hilux over here  :smack: the box is definitely an R151f and I haven't counted the bolts on the rear of my transfer yet but I was talking to Locktup today and they said it was chain driven...

Was that Jason? distance from where I am in QLD (near Brisbane) to locktup in Perth WA is 4261km (2648 miles)... only a three day drive without stopping!

holy :pokinit:.  i just looked at Google Earth. I didn't realize AU was that big. I thought it was maybe 500 miles across. LOCKTUP is Jason though.

eMOJO

Haha yeah it's a common ocurrance when European travellers come over to QLD and ask if they can hire a car for the day to go to Perth  :smack:

Problem is the centre is all desert and there ain't any freeways that go through it so normal ppl have to go around it sticking to the coast...
