Wheel Bearings & Sky's Widening Kit?
« on: Oct 17, 2008, 12:31:22 PM »
I bought new wheel bearings from Marlin, for my 85 solid axle. I want to know if they can be used in the IFS wheel hubs? Specifically if I wanted to use Sky's Widening Kit. In the kit, you use the solid axle spindle, but IFS wheel hubs. So, wouldn't the bearings be similar, if not exactly the same?

Yes, but a quick call to any auto parts store could have answered the question too.  All you do is ask them to cross reference the part numbers

Thanks guys. I appreciate the info.
Now the question is whether or not I want to spend $230 on the Kit.  :-\

No you don't....  it's a huge waste of money.  Use fj-40/80 rotors on ifs hubs and put the caliper on the outside of the knuckle rather than the inside like stock.

I'm still running the same setup to this day.  Same bolts, same calipers etc etc etc.  not a single issue at all and I'm running 42's now and it still works great...

Like it or not there is not a problem with it at all.  The forces are still the same just moved out a bit.  I can still lock the brakes with no issue other than leaving rubber on the road.

that isnt the issue @ hand, white trash has gone wider, and without the kit...... he reports no adverse effects of his setup, but many people dont trust it's design....

anyways back to the topic at hand........ i just did the widening kit tonight, and put my new wheel bearings in from a 1985 front axle master rebuild kit that I bought from marlin, so yes the bearings do fit and are the exact same as the old IFS ones

that's good news. especially if you got your bearings from marlin, because thats where I got mine. do you run a 86+ axle?

That will be nice and wide. What kind of backspacing do your wheels have?
