just curious how do you get it certified as smog legal.  Ive considered a 5.0 swap into my 82, but was under the impression that the engine had to be of the same year or newer, and the same manufacturer of the vehicle to pass smog.

You have been mis-informed!  It doesn't really matter what year the engine was made, just that it has the smog stuff from whichever vehicle you claim it came from, which must be of the same year or newer.  And no, it doesn't have to be from the same manufacturer, that makes no sense at all!  Emissions are emissions.

I'm sorry...Ian from xtreme 4x4 lied to me then.  They did that hemi swap into a jeep and said it was okay because the motor was offered in some year cherokee.  And thats not the only place ive heard it.  When your talking about California, no emmision restriction sounds TOO rediculous

california allows 10000 custom made vehicles a year for registration... thats how it has an older motor.  usually it has to be the same year or newer.  if my truck was here at my house i could post a pic with the doorjam id.  im not going down to where its stored till thanksgiving but ill try to have my pops take some pics to get it gone! needs to go soon poor thing just sitting there.
