So there might be a guy in Oroville who is selling an '86 Xtra Cab with a new motor but no axles or tcase. I'm gonna go down and check it out on Saturday with my brother. If the rig is decent, I might buy it and swap my axles and hopefully dual cases on.
If I do that, then I am probably gonna part my 85 out, and try and make the money back. This way I can keep a wheeler

If not, then I am probably still going to sell my truck. We'll see what happens.

My '85 is just giving me :pokinit: Seems like it's one problem after another. Which I wouldn't really mind, except I want to have something I can drive every day. Everything's pretty tired on the '85, but it makes a good wheeler. And if this '86 has a new motor and good tranny like the guy says, I think it would be worth it because then at least I wouldn't have to worry about those components, and it's a pretty good price.

My new plan is to get this '86, swap the goods over, and then find another front axle for my '85 set it up with some 33's or something and sell it as is. I think that would be better than parting out a drivable truck.

I'm not gonna go through with this if the '86 is a piece of junk though. No point.

That being said, if nothing works out, and my truck never sells, I'm won't be bummed, I'll just dump some more money in it and carry on like I was. I'm just kind of feelin' my situations out.  :meal:

In this purgatory period, I decided to snap some flex shots. Those front springs do pretty good.

At this point, no one has shown any serious interest in my rig. That being said I'm gonna keep it up on the forum and on craigslist and maybe something will happen.
But, if nothing happens I'm probably going to proceed forward as planned. I've got somethings I can/want to do.
-Bucket Seats
-V6 rear axle
-Shackles
-Stereo/CB
-Shocks/Frame
-Dual Cases
-Trim Fends
And potentially gears.
I'll probably slowly get some of this stuff accomplished as time rolls on.

you know you can also, drill out your spring perches to move your axle forward, i drilled mine like 1 and 1/4 of an inch, moved the axle up and helped alot.

If I moved it forward it might hit the smittybilt. I don't mind trimming fend, as long as it looks clean when it's done.

Say it isn't so, right?
I want the people room and removable top. Plus the lines... They are great. It would be so awesome if I found a Turbo SR5 4Runner. I would pay top dollar. But if a 2nd gen 22RE showed up on my doorstep, I wouldn't necessarily send him out into the cold.

I would, and I tried. But it's would just be too expensive to get that thing back in good condition. It doesn't even have a top, or a tranny, or axles I can do anything with, or seats... It just adds up quick.

use all your truck stuff.
I have a top I will sell you
has all the glass
if you can get a canvas top I will trade you.

All the stuff from my 86 is going under mine,
I think a fj40 with 40s will look and wheel awesome.

Selling the truck whole and getting a runner seems like the way to go if thats what you want. Someone has to bite on this truck.
22RE .30 over, mild cam, K&N, LCE header, 2.25'' pipe, high flow cat, Magnaflow.
 Marlin 1200LB clutch

 no substitute for 4wheel drive.

It would be pretty sick, but so would a Runner. I'm considering it, but I think I would rather have a 22RE over a Chevy 350.
I think I would lean more towards the FJ side if I had a better platform to start from. I have no idea about anything on the 40 except that it needs a ton of love. You know?
