2002 Tundra Buildup
« on: Aug 06, 2008, 06:45:58 PM »
Started off with a 02 Tundra, had a mild lift on it and then SAS'd, it sat to tall so I lowered it and removed the divorce np205 and installed an Inchworm reduction box and that's where I'm at now.  Mainly sees mud, deep water, mild trail use (although I am getting more into trail riding).  I'm posting here so I can get ideas and opinions and see what you guys think about it and what I should do next.  Any criticism is welcome!

Here's how it sits now...

Pretty much.  lots of mud and water, especially now during the rainy season.  I have been lookin to do some trail riding but places down here are very limited, so I may be making a trip up to Georgia to possibly River Rock or something like that.

Sweet, I like seeing tundra buildups, but do I see shackles at the front of the spring?  If so, I can't imagine it handles the best...

yea it rides kinda stiff, really stiff actually, but it doesnt bother me.  As for handling, it has some bump steer because of the trac bar not being in the same plane as the drag link, so that will have to be fixed sometime down the road.

Got the rear frame gussets done.  I plug welded them on the backside.  I am working on front frame gussets and will be ordering a set of DOM tube shock mounts and welding those up for the front.  I also have a new pitman arm, TRE, Panhard bar with rod ends that are going to be installed.  I am going to weld up some new mounts for the panhard bar too.  let me know what you think.

I got the front frame plates pretty much wrapped up, just a few more mods.  I am going to make another plate that stretches from where this on ends to the body mount.  I ordered some shock hoops that will be welded to the plate in the picture.  I also ordered the rest of the stuff that I needed for the steering and track bar mods.

your one of the very few on the boards that has said you like it taller.  haha thanks for the compliments though!

Today I got the passenger side frame gusset welded up.  I have to cut off the old track bar bracket on the driver side in order to weld that one up.

Thanks man!  Yea, i have been looking for tires for months now but I cant find any that i really like.  I need something more streetable.  The pirate and ttora boards can be a little harsh sometimes, with all the superduty crap and thornbird sucks comments.  But, theres too much info there that i need haha.

Ya thats true.

Well i dont know how often you drive but i had 39.5 iroks, badass tire in anything you put them in. I DD my 02 tacoma so i have 37 MT/Rs and theyre a bitchin tire. Since you live in FL tho and deal with mud, idk what to get. Id go with Iroks but like i said, i dont know how often you drive it. Irok radials are better but still not nearly as good of a tire on the street as a Toyo MT or the MT/R. I also had toyos and I liked them a lot. I dont know how they do in mud tho because I never touch that stuff.

I was looking more toward a true mud terrain tire.  I drive this truck everyday everywhere I go.  Even though off road it sees about 80% mud, I dont want aggressive tires that I have to deal with on the street.  I though about getting another set of wheels to have boggers on so when I do go offroading I can just just swap out tires.  But I am still undecided.
