So I'm working on this whole 1500 calorie diet thing and it's fawkin killing me! I don't see how people do it. I've been going for 5 days now and I think I might be physically injuring my body. Being 6'4 and 254 pounds with a gynormous rib cage I think I need the nutrition of burger king and mc donalds to properly survive. The protien and energy required to run a body my size must require more food!!!!!!

Wermz84

You might be right.  Just don't get it at the cost of High sodium and saturated fats, and cholesterol.      2000 calories of healthy food would be a lot better than 1500 calories of bad food.

that being said, I think I want a burger.  :hahaha:

Of course the more active you are, the more calories your body consummes, the more you can eat, so you have to figure that into the equation too.

again with the diet coke :shake:

Of course drinking water is ideal and will help you to lose weight, but a diet soda is not going to cause you to gain weight as was the 'rumor' going around a while back.

according to Science Daily a sugar substitute MIGHT cause a person to overeat, but it is not the soda itself that would cause the weight gain it would be the lack of control/awareness over what a person is eating:

Why would a sugar substitute backfire" Swithers and Davidson wrote that sweet foods provide a "salient orosensory stimulus" that strongly predicts someone is about to take in a lot of calories. Ingestive and digestive reflexes gear up for that intake but when false sweetness isn't followed by lots of calories, the system gets confused. Thus, people may eat more or expend less energy than they otherwise would.

The good news, Swithers says, is that people can still count calories to regulate intake and body weight. However, she sympathizes with the dieter's lament that counting calories requires more conscious effort than consuming low-calorie foods.

Counting calories does not take that much effort, once you get started you get a general idea of how much is what.

Calories = weight gain, pure and simple.

A diet soda alone is not going to cause you to gain weight.

Eating half of a standard kitchen sponge before every meal will make you feel more full.

Good luck man!  I refuse to say I'm going on a diet but I think I need to modify my eating habits.  Actually, I could probably continue to eat the same as I do if I just didn't spend so damn much time sitting at this computer!  I've only eaten one small cherry tomater from my garden today.  I often only get a small snack before going to work at 11am, then rarely get anything before lunch at around 4, which can be anything from a small egg/cheese/pancake wrap thingy to a snack bar hot dog.  Then I usually don't eat till I get home after 8 or 9, and that's probably my biggest downfall.

give it up.  As big as you are, and eating that few of calories, you're putting your body in starvation mode, which will cause you to retain fat, and while you may lose weight, you'll retain the body fat, losing muscle weight instead.  Talk to a nutritionist, or even poke around online, there are charts and tables and questionaires you can do to determine to proper amount of calories you need to take in based on activity level, BMI, bone structure, body shape, etc.  The BMI alone is a joke, but it combined with the other assessments can give you a good idea of what you need.  I did this, discovered I needed about 2200 under normal conditions.  Was pretty sucessful at dropping some fat weight doing that :gap:

Hell, if I went by BMI, I'm supposed to weigh 190!  :yikes:  I'd look like...  WERMZ!!  :gap:

LOL, yeah, last idiot doctor told me I was supposed to be 185. I told him that I hadn't been 185 since I was in 8th grade.

Have any links to these tables in regards to body frame size?

According to that chart my bmi is 26 and puts me slightly overweight, but if I drop 5 pounds it puts me on the edge of normal.  For riding the bike I'd like to about 15 pounds lighter or so, but that'd take some major work!  I'm 5'3" and 145ish now, was same height but 113 when I graduated.  I wasn't quite as gross at 130 and my clothes fit better, so I guess that's my unofficial target weight, though I'm really mostly aiming to not gross myself out when I'm shirtless  :haha:

Go get your self those bag of carrots and things like that, so when your between meals, and hungry, grab some.  And tank up on water, but not too much, because too much will harm ya too.  It will dilute your electrolytes, and lower your sodium levels too much.  Ask my mother in law about that!   :shakehead: I use country time lemonade, or gatorade mixes.  For the electrolytes, and minerals your body does need.  Just watch your intake and exercise.  I always loose weight in the spring and early summer, cause that's when I spend alot of time cutting, splitting and stacking firewood.  I get a good workout.

I don't believe those BMI crap they all tell me that I need to weigh at least 200+ lbs.  But anything over 185, I have hips, knees, and ankle pain!

You speak of losing weight as a good thing. It's all what kind if weight your losing. I'm 230lbs in shape, I'm 200lbs out of shape but fatter. I'm 6'4''.

A low cal diet is ok, but exercising a very small amount and eating a little bit better will do you more.

Good job on the weight loss Mini.... Besides climbing poles at work, my next best excercise is firewood getting. I do it when ever I can, all year round. I agree on the BMI farce. I'm considered obese by it's standards 5'11" 240lbs :bull crap:

14 pounds in 42 days!
Average 1/3 pound per day!

New diet cosists of:
Breakfast: Sweet Roll (basically all bread and sugar)
Lunch: Salad with roast beef, avacado, tomatoes, cucumbers and 2oz blue cheese dressing
Dinner: Something home cooked, usually no carb
Beverages: Sobe Energy, 0 carbs and Diet Rootbeer, no caffine, no carbs

Excersize: as of 3 days ago, riding bike 3 miles a day.

Edit: my new weight takes me below the "obese" section of the BMI chart and down to the "overweight" section (not that that thing matters)
