FORD RANGER vs CHEVY S10

Here, now you have a place to argue about which is better, a s10 or ranger!  :smack: (see post #4)

you bought an s10? i am sorry... no really......

So what's wrong with an S-10? Better than a stinkin' Ford.

mabey so but its no toyota..... its no toyota

True, true, but if I had a choice of a Chevy or a Ford I'd get a Dodge.

what do you see more of on the road? ford rangers or s10s?

i wouldnt trade my ranger for an s10 ever

The real question would be what are the percentages of sales to the amount of vehicles still on the road. Ford sold butt-loads of Rangers compared to S-10's and I still see butt-loads of S-10's still tooling around compared to Rangers. You can't beat that 4.3

maybe it is just where you are at then..... i rarely see s10s around here.... i always see rangers....

the 4.3 is a good engine, i will give the s10 that much.... but that was the only thing the s10 had going for it.... the trannies sucked, the suspensions sucked, what didnt suck? gm does have good trannies though... just the s10 was an afterthought into the small truck market..... it was not one of their good vehicles......

i am a ford fan, but i will admit for light duty trannies suck, they are easily modified though, i plan on installing a shift kit on my 98 with like 145k, everything stock on it.....

All I know is I see lots of old crappy Chevy S-10's running around, the only Rangers are in really good condition. What that means to me is you can beat the snot out of the S-10 and it keeps going but if you don't keep the Ford up it dies. Also I've lived in more places than you've probably visited, same results. Plus friends don't let friends drive Ford's, you must be a very lonely person.

my 98 ranger with 145k still has a trade in good blue book of $4k......

:dunno: I see s10s all the time.  Dont' see all that many rangers. :dunno: same goes for Sacramento area too!

:werd:

I've got a 95 with a 2.3 and a 5 speed.  Been a GREAT truck so far.  243k and still ticking with the original brakes to boot.   :o

My wife had a 87 s-10 that was a huge steaming cow pie...  Always broken down and running like crap.

yup, they are known as the Sy/Ty vehicles, I think only available for 2 years (I didn't actually read the wikipedia link I posted, it was just the easiest way to convey the info)

forced induction 4.3, awd, small pickup... that pretty much sums them up... and look sick with the factory black with red accents/stickers

Jimbo, just admit these trucks are awesome, lol. :gap: They made a little under 10,000 of them if I remember correctly, so its not like they are one off trucks.

only thing that scares me about the rangers is the 4wd system... my friend had a newish one, maybe 2-3 years old, and we could never get the 4wd to work correctly... then he rolled it so he doesn't have to worry about it any more.

all in all, for a dd, s-10 vs ranger, I would choose an early 90s ranger extended cab with the 2.9 six cylinder... my friend had one, and we beat the crap out of it jumping it and stuff... he totaled it twice... and it still ran fine.

The 2.3 is by far the best for reliability but the later DOHC 4.0 is a ripper too bad it doesn't last nearly as long....

:shake:  The cyclone and typhoon are both STOCK.  It just so happens to be a performance package... Yes its an extensive package but it still came out of the factory and they produced more than 500 of them so it falls under the production car category.

Kinda like putting a 2.8 camaro against a 5.7 TPI irok version but hey, stock is still stock no matter how you look at it.

 thats for sure!

I like the ranger just for the sheer fact of all the aftermarket pre-runner suspension parts around for them plus they look hella cool all pre-runnered out I think.... personally I still would never buy either I would just go the extra and get another toyota  :beerchug:

i drive a stock 95 ranger with 109k on it , only major problem i have had with it is that the ac pump went out... 4 bolts a new belt and she is running like new as always...
only real problem i have with the thing is that its got the splash package with the stepside bed.. yup cant haul a sheet of plywood but with a class 3 i haul 1ton of clay without a problem

edited to add
the cab in an s10 is like a tin can to me, feels like your crammed into a cavalier or something, ford always did put decent sized cabs on thier stuff

C. None of the above
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

Neither is better unless you take the discussion down to individual vehicles. Every brand has lemons; my buddies Ranger (Mazda B series) is an ok vehicle, very light duty.....very VERY light duty but dependable.

Geez I almost forgot (I did) about the typhoons and syclones, lets line one of those up against a Splash and see what happens.

FYI they sport AWD and a V-6 but they will beat the snot out of just about any of the current crop of "V-8" muscle cars of today.
