Topic: 4 wheel drive will not engage

need help... my 1987 toyota 4runner 4wd will not engage 4 wheel drive nor 4HI or 4lO. the light 4WD light up ok on desk. but not engaging the TC... it an AUTO/Chain TC. A340H. it can drive 50 mph when in 4LO???

you've got to tell us more about it.  Any weird noises, grinding, etc.?  Does the shifter move, or is it stuck in one place?

Are you sure it isn't the hubs?

shifting from 2hi to 4hi to 4lo normal....light on guage solid green. no noise or grinding any sort. the problem is i can drive over the speed limit (40+ mph) the shifter in 4lo position locking the front axle. i dunno...and it suppost to have a locking or bumping forward moving on truck when shifter in 4lo, but not anymore.

will, TC limit speed to 0-5 mph but i can drive 40+ in 4lo... and RPM is at normal range just like driving in 2HI....i dunno!

Ahh, I get it, not shifting at all.  I thought you just weren't getting power to the front wheels...

What country are you from?  I'm having a little trouble with the broken english, is it possible it's just lost in translation?

i think is USA or North America... umm...you're not suppose to read it just scan throught. Example: 4HI=4 wheel drive high, 4Lo=4 wheel drive low, A340H= automatic with chain type transfercase, not engage=not working. means: my transfercase did not work in 4hi and 4 low. need help...

never mind i just got it fixed.. it was just a broken chain.
