i kinda had a funny thought about this........ for those of us with first gens, we should raise the overall value of these trucks!  If we were to sell them, we'd sell them at an inflated price and that would create an overall inflation of the price of our trucks for the time being.  Once people start to believe that these trucks are supposed to be sold at this inflated value, because there isn't very many of them, the price will most likely keep rising.  At some point there will be a lack of liquidity of these trucks and once there isn't liquidity and someone wants to get one..... the price can creep it's way higher
Might have to create a secret society or something for this to work.... "Round Eyes"... like the Skull and Bones!

Just a thought......  :screwy:

I bought my 87 22R all stock for $1,500 in Western Colorado.  But my head gasket just went out.  I am in the process of replacing the head gasket.  I am going to try and sell my truck this spring.  I may be able to get between $2000-$2500 because my truck is pretty clean and that is what they go for around here

How can you not like First Gen.'s , They are the best thing that Toyota has ever came out with including the FJ's !!!! These trucks were built to last and last they do . I guess if you were putting a price on them it really all depends on how the truck was taking care of or what has been put in the trucks such as gears , axles ect... , When looking for a First Gen. to buy I always check for RUST , especially on the FRAME , alot of them I have looked at have been patched from rusting through right in front of the rear leaf hangers right behind the cab , also check the floorboards !!!!! I've seen them from $100-$8000. , Found a 81 All original No Rust , Garage kept , 74,000 miles for $8000. so basically it all depends on the truck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am looking into buying an 81 Toyota Pickup, I don't know if it is a short/long bed.  I have heard the long bed is best for off road.  Why is this and what else should I look for?  I am wanting to run 35's with 63" Chevy's for the rear.

That's really a gross generalization.  What wheelbase will work best for you depends on where/what you wheel and YOUR personal preference.

I'm stuck exactly backward of what I want: longbed 4by and shortbed 2wd.  I really don't like having to stop, back up and take another shot on a steep, loose trail.  Problem is, you usually end up jumping on a good deal even if it isn't exactly what you want, which is exactly what I did.

I am currently looking at an 81 Yota Pickup 4x4 22R in GJ.  It has 240,000 mi. Tan. Runs well at higher RPM but it idles rough.  Little Rust.  He wants $1000 OBO.  I am unable to drive to GJ right now because I am in the middle of a head gasket job.  What do you think would be a good price to offer him for it?
