My tow rig:

2001 Yukon XL 4x4 8.1. Tows excellent. MPGs, well, it sucks. 7 mpg is the worst, 12 is the best.
The wifey wanted something nice, I wanted a tow rig. We compromised and got this. Oh well, I guess I can wait a few more years 'til I can get a pickup/gooseneck rig.

It's a 496 gas motor

I run a '97 Ram 5 speed with a Cummins. Went that route for strength and durability.

496, replaced the 454 when gm changed body styles. more powerful and slightly better fuel efficiency than a 454. similar fuel economy to the 6.0L but with more power

DAMN!!! that's pretty big.   is it a good gas engine and durable.  as far as last long time or what?
and do they make these in diesel?
i love oregon wheelin.

its got a good reputation with a little bit of an aftermarket available.

the yukon xl in a diesel? not from the factory since the 2000 body change but there are companies that convert them, aint cheap though.

2002 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Extended Cab 4x4 Duramax/Allison  With Edge Juice box.      I'd put it up against almost any work truck in the cost per mile to operate.   I bought it new and put 175k on the odometer.  It gets about 19MPG empty and about 14MPG towing my trail rig.

In that time I've replaced:

Thermostats - (when it was new uner warranty)
Rear Driveshaft U-joints
Fuel Injectors (under warranty)
Rear brake pads
Right front unit bearing
Both Batteries - (last year)
Alternator - (last year)
3 sets of tires

Other than what is listed above and fluids that is all.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

I tow with an 82 Chev crew cab dually (454 gas). Tows my 4runner (16' trailer) no problem. I am adding a camper this year so we will see. I am also tired of the tent thing

904x4yota

I tow with a 98 Dodge Cummins 12 valve 5 speed 4x4 quad cab long bed.  I get around 20+ mpg empty but not sure loaded never checked.  I have only replaced the clutch from a single factory unit to a Dual disk clutch because I turned the fuel up and the single disk would slip. Other than the clutch which is my own fault, 208,000 miles UNTOUCHED.  Cummins all the way.
