Pulled apart both sides and checked both birfs. The right one was fine and the left had come apart just like I thought. The housing looks good but I have to replace the inner seal.

I bought this from Harbor freight about 3 years ago. Just got it set up the other day and it doesn't work and it's out of warranty. I have to check the wiring, might be a loose connection, worst case the motor.

I picked up a replacement birf from brockbuilt85 for the right price of free! It's got a few marks but it usable. Thanks Cody   Got it installed and ready to go back in. Ordering new inner and out bearings and races today or tomorrow. I should have it all back together next week  :yesnod:

Time to update this thread.
1. Got the front axle all back together with new knuckle bearings and triple lip seals.
2. Won a Spartan locker from Dave's Offroad. Had to remove the front 3rd and replaced the locker
3. Traded my rear 4cyl Detroit locker with 5.29's for an elocker. Had new bearings installed and new Spartan 5.29's.
4. Replaced head gasket and installed a stock cam.
5. Built a new bikini top.
6. Removed my Warn M8000 and replaced it with a Warn XD9000i with synthetic rope. Had to do some minor trimming to the grill.

I haven't touched my half doors since last year. I should have them done for M.C.R.

Went to Hollister today and attended the 4Wheel Parts shin dig. Everything went good until I heard the front end knocking. I figured out that I have at least 1 broken tooth in the front axle. Now I have to fix this before MCR in Sept.  :smack: Like they say, "2 steps forward and 1 step back!"  :hammerhead:

Found the front axle was low on oil. Inspected the gears and found no broken teeth !

It's been a little over 10 years since I posted on this thread! Not much has changed on the 4Runner. I bought a 97 4Runner for a 3rz swap. Got the engine out and was getting ready to start getting it back together when the transmission went bad on a 2002 VW Beetle with a 1.9L TDI. I sold the 3rz stuff and bought the adapters to install the TDI in the 4Runner. I've ready about these swaps over the years and now I get to do mine. Hoping to get 30 - 35 mpg with the gearing & tires I have!  :crossed: I'm gonna try to keep this thread updated with the progress.
