oil pressure sensor and voltmeter sensor
« on: Feb 04, 2008, 08:58:04 AM »
I managed to grab a oil pressure sensor and a volts sensor out of an 84 or 85 truck at a junk yard and they are the round ones that came stock and they are below the radio.  My truck does not have any guages.... just the dummy lights for both oil and volts.  And I don't know what I have to do to hook up the guages.  Will it work if I just hook it up to the sensors? or will that not work and will i have to buy new sensors?  and where are the sensors located at?

So I have this random 4 prong wiring harness that has nothing plugged into it(behind my radio) and I figured that the wiring harness match up on both the oil pressure sensor and the voltmeter sensor but that the wires are not the right ones.... the guage did have power to it and the face light lit up... but the guage did nothing.  I think the mystery wiring harness goes to a clock.

:headscratch: I know the 1st gens had the oil & volt guages in front of the shifter  but I haven't seen that on the 2nd gens. 2nd gens have the oil & volt guages in the dash by the speedo & tach, at least thats where mine is in my 87.

Go back & cut the wiring harness for the oil & volt guages. Make sure you cut enough so you can splice in wires. I'm sure there is some info here somewhere for where the wires go.
