wtf, won't run after hg replacement.
« on: Dec 23, 2007, 02:31:37 PM »
Just did a hg on my 87 pu with 22r. replaced head with a newer one, and installed new head bolts. I got it all put back together set timing, messed around with it a little while until it finally fired up. It ran for maybe a minute then died. It will fire and run for a few minutes then die. I had the intake fuel pump etc off. What could I have missed or hooked up incorrectly? I've done a few hg's on this truck, can't think of anything obvious that I missed. If you can think of anything obvious please let me know.

22r, carb. There are 4 wires that come off the carb the connector was broken, so I cut the connector out and spliced them back together. 2 of the wires are the same color, I'm thinking possibly they are hooked up wrong. If any one has any other suggestions please post them up.

ok cam timing was off slightly adjusted that it still won't run for more than a minute or so.  It is a fuel issue if I pump the pedal quickly when it starts dieing it will try to run. However at start up when it is running correclty it will pick up rpms when I give it gas. Any suggestions???

Wire to the idle solenoid?

Idle solenoid the thing on the pass side of the carb, with white wire coming off it? I will recheck the connection.

I'm 99% sure the fuel lines are hooked up coorrectly. I will have to spend some time with it Sunday, re check electrical connections, replace fuel filter and check fuel pump operation. If anyone else has suggestions please post them up.

I think I have figured it out. I can't beleive  you guys didn't think of this. If so this post would have looked something like this. Hey Toby your dumb :moon:, disconnected the battery before you started, like your manual says to right???
Oh you didn't, hmmm, you didn't lay that head across your battery when you pulled it off did you??? maybe causing it to arc??? Oh you did, well then of course you pulled the cover off you fusible link panel, to make sure you didn't smoke the main link and possibly blow other fuses under there did you. Ohhh you haven't checked that yet, by the way the main link is removed through the bottom of the panel you can't pull it straight out the top because you will destroy it doing this. Oh and Toby by the way :slap: :slap: :slap: :slap: :slap: :slap: :slap: :slap: :slap:
