transmission swap question
« on: Dec 02, 2007, 07:40:16 PM »
Is there such a thing as ... swapping an automatic transmission into my '86 Toyota 4x4 pickup??
I now have a standard 5 speed.

Anybody have experience with this?  My follow-up questions will no doubt be...what fits, what doesn't, trans cooler, transfer case, drive shaft ... the more information I get the better decision I can make.

I'm hoping this would make it easier for my wife to drive, with confidence.

thax in advance

Put the transfer case in 4 low, leave the hubs unlocked & teach her how to drive a stick. When she will learns how to release the clutch & shift, then put it back in 2 hi. Thats less work & cheaper than the swap. Thats what I would do  :twocents:

If she refuses to learn, then I would get a new wife  :gap:
