Taking the time to label every wire and connection was definately worth it!  The wire swap went alot easier than I thought it would.

This is a picture of the interior being put back together...

There are still some wiring issues to get worked out...  Guage lights aren't working, need to wire up the dome light and that sort of thing.  It did pass inspection though, and as soon as I can find a bed, or build one...   :driving:

Make sure you transplant the hood paint onto the new cab. Great work!

Today I was messing around in my Toyota parts field and decided to go ahead and pull the 2wd shortbed off the truck that donated the cab (94 2wd).  I thought the bed was trashed, but after cleaning out a bed load of trash and old parts, it's really in great shape!  Just a few minor dents...  Anyway...  i set the bed in place to see what I had.  The problem would be that the frame is a longbed and the bed is a shortbed.  With the other cab and bed on there, the rear quarter panel section of the bed was just cut off on both sides.  I never had any clearence issues like that, and most people didn't notice that the rear wheels didn't line up with the fenderwells -->  The rear wheels center around 42" from the back of the cab, and the fenderwells center about 32" from the back of the cab.  So the rear tires are about 10" behind center of the openings.

My question is...  Any suggestions?  I was just going to cut the lower rear sections of the bed sided off, like before, but wonder if there is a better solution...  Or a cooler way cutting it, or doing it?

I'm getting ready to swap chevy rears on too, and couldn't finnd any info on this but could I just move the front hangers farther forward to relocate the axle forward a few inches?  Here are some picks of the way it sits now.

Bob the bed....then use the left over piece to lengthen the bed near the cab to center the wheelwell :gap: (or) find a long bed? Good luck man, in all seriousness, the truck is coming together well!

Yeah I may just try and find a long bed.  Custom is always cooler though.  May just build one too, just don't have time right now and want to get a bed on ASAP!

I haven't been able to find any info about this being done...  But I think I can just move the front spring hangers farther forward when I mount the chevy springs.  That would move the whole axle forward.  Anyone know if that would work?

find center of the wheel whells then locate your axle under the truck. Tack hangers where they need to be check everything for square, check pinion angle, rotate perches if nescisarry, and weld it all up slolid. If I make it sound easy thats couse it is, let me know if I can help.

Happy turkey day, turkey!

That's what I figured on doing.  I didn't think it would matter how far forward the front hanger was moved, as long as the axle ends up where I need it.  Good to see you back!!!

I also need to do the firewall mod to fix the front clearance issues.  I moved the cab back about 1.5" when I mounted it, so that helped some too.  Think I will almost center the rear axle with the bed wheelwell or maybe just split the diference and cut and bob the bed...  If I didn't have these term papers to finish up I would be heading down there to get started on it!   :hammerhead:

Some crossover steering and rears up front would fix that clearance problem and give ya better feel and controll on and off road. After rears up front and crossover on my truck all I needed was to pound the seam flat at the firewall and I have not rubbed there since, even with relatively flat springs, low stance and fat 36" tires. I rember rubbing with 31s before. My tires do rub ,but they rub where the inner fender slopes down for the battery tray.

As far as the rear moving the axle foward means gas tank, and driveshaft issues. Modding the bed is the best solution if your happy with your wheelbase. A shorter wheelbase will give you a tighter turning radious, and better breakover angles, but a longer wheelbase means better on road ride, and a less tippy feeling on steep climbs.

Well, I got the bed bolted down and cut out the bed fenderwells for clearance.

Here is a poser pic.  I was trying to see where the front was binding up at, but need to find a higher bank to back up on I guess...

These are crappy cell phone pics...

Woo-HOOOoo!  Finals are over!  This was my last undergrad semester!!  Now I have time to get busy on the Yotar!!!   :driving:

I need to finish the front bumper...  I was thinking about putting a new front spring hanger on there too.  I have one from Marlin that I used to SAS a frame, but never did anything with the frame so I may cut it off and put it under the front of this truck.

Any thoughts on that idea?

The trucks coming along pretty good   I stoped by the shop on Rt. K and talked to the guys there.  They said they havn't seen you in a while.  Now I know why you've been busy.  I just started working on my 4runner again.  I should have it ready this coming spring.
