I like those mega cruisers!  Even the old ones cost a crapload though.

Wouldn't we all. Too bad the pavement pounding mall crawlers that NEVER engage 4wd, much less 4-lo, outnumber us. we'll never see them.

this is just plain sad  :shudder:

notice anything wrong with this picture?

I've been saying for a long time that to be fully competitive with the "big three", Tundra will need to offer:

1)  A diesel... A big, full-on, mega-torque diesel.

2)  Dual-rear wheels, and all the load capacity that comes with 'em.

3)  An 8-foot bed, even with double-cabs.  Oops, make that CrewMax.

The new, larger Tundra is a big step in the right direction (in this market segment).  But I think it needs the above to compete head-on...  And I think Toyota will offer a diesel and rear duals before long, though a 6.5' bed might be the limit on CrewMax models (only 5.5' is offered now).

Yes, they will be expensive...  but so are their competitors, and people are still buying them.

My goal in life is to be as a good a person as my dog already thinks I am.

... yea but the difference between Toyota's Tundra and a brand new Dodge Cummins 3500 Dually.. is about $5000.

Imagine IF Toyota does market a dually with components that'll keep up with Dodge.. it's going to cost way more..

in my opinion... will people buy it?   .. dunno.. there's obviously a market for it... but if it has a $60,000+ price tag??

I'm confident that Toyota Marketing will have the answer before the product is released...  We'll just have to wait & see.

On a related note, we cruised through a Chevy dealer recently and Mrs. Stocker noticed the price of a HD 3/4T Silverado -- $50 grand!!  Sure, they'll likely discount it, but it was not a one-ton Dually either.

The Tundras I've looked at were stickered from $37K to $43K.

you can get a basic gmc worktruck (regular cab) 3/4 ton 2wd for 33k with the duramax/allison combo. crew cab 1 ton dually 4x4 fully loaded will run up to 52k (but thats cheaper than ford.) have a truck for what suites your needs. if you pull trailers like that, get a 1 ton dually. if you pull 6-10k pounds, get a 1/2 ton.

The January/February issue of Truck Trend (cover and pg 22) has a one-off truck built for SEMA that has an 8 liter Hino backed by an Eaton 5 speed. I haven't found it at www.trucktrend.com yet...but, it's a very interesting truck. If they boost the power, currently listed at 260hp 585 ft lb (and an auto), to match the big three they might just have something that could be a very workable truck...5th wheel capacity is currently estimated at an F450 like 24,500 lbs.
