you buy one kit per diff...and invest the $29 in a solid spacer, it's well worth the peace of mind, IMO.

and I think it's better to buy the master kit and put all the bearings in at once, so you know for sure what you have.

just read about them and they seem to be worth their weight in gold..thanks!!

lilbuddy

Yeah one install kit for each.

4wheelparts has a whole kit thing for pretty cheap if i recall correctly... Check them out too. www.4wheelparts.com

Also Drew was jsut telling me, and i agree, that most of the time the reason that gears fail is the way they are set up so keep that in mind also.

I just put genuine gear 5.29s in my truck and they seem to be ok. I bought them cause they are cheap and have a no questions asked lifetime warranty.

It all depends on your decision. I broke my gears and that was just in town so....

Everything is capable of breaking. Even tho they may be bad gears and broken on the trail blows but you can still get new ones.

sill this work since i have an IFS rear??

http://www.4wheelparts.com/PDT291688.aspx

Doesnt matter. Only thing different is the length of the axleshafts. Its still an 8" ring gear and still is 30 spline.

remember, my 5.29 thirds are from an 81 truck

No prob man, dont sweat it, that should take like an hour or two tops, then you will have the rest of the week to wrap up your jeep...

Oh yea,  did you get the big hammer out and fix those rear wheel wells?

lol no not yet... i need to get that patched up and fixed though

where would i mount my rear shocks in the V pattern?

would i need to weld in a new bar for the mounts or just make mounts and weld it to the bar the exhaust is hanging on????

could i get a pic also?

Can you put a pic of the underside of your rig and the mounts that the exhaust is?  I would think you would want a fairely solid bar across the back without straps is your suspension flexy enough to extend the shocks out?

Ramrod

you dont really need that master install kit unless you really just want all the new bearings and what not.  Depending on who sets up your diffs they probably already have the shims already.  And if your lucky you might already have solid spacers.  I know that both thirdmembers in my first gen did stock

my stock crossmember was rusted out so i replaced it with a DOM tube (you want this as HIGH as possible to maximize your shock travel)

... and made this..

basically, you want your shocks as straight up and down as possible but far enough in so they dont bottom out (you might have to reposition the upper bolts in the tube as the springs settle)

Hey dirtyboy do your socks bottom out before you hit your bumpstops?    It is a nice lookin setup, and would definately choose to mount to that verses any stock crossmember...

good eye, skippy....yes they do bottom out under extreme flex. The rears have settled a BUTTLOAD since installation (which is GOOD! ) I just need to move the upper bolts IN a couple inches (like i just told sillywilly)...its like a 10 minute fix..no problems...

I am not running any bumpstops right now...I was told by some experts to run them and others said they arent necessary...that the 9 leaf pack would never fully compress (which I cant really see either)

Ramrod

i like to put my lower shock mounts on the front or back of the axle so that I can mount them lower and get more travel out of them.  for the top I would just weld in a new piece of round or square tubing up there for a shock crossmember.  the stock one is pretty weak and usually just breaks or rips

skipnrocks

I like a mix of both of these ideas, dirtoys  looks like it extends above the frame just a bit, and ramrod has a good idea too of mounting them lower also, the longer further away your mounting points are the longer your shaft/ more vertical they can be...

ill take a pic tomorrow...im already gunna have to chop more of my exhause up but its behind the muffler so its all good. im just looking for the easiest way to do this and also get the most strength out of it. i think to make :pokinit: easy ill just weld in a square tubing and where the shocks mount just mount two brackets on the bottom or side of it. i have the 14" travle blistiens so i have a lot to work with. ill also weld brackets onto the axle at a good angle to maximze the flex. ill try to get something drawn up tomorrow on paint. since my laptop doesnt have it i cant do it right now. but i will have this done prb on thursday if i dont have to work. since my ass end bounces like a tampoline and its sketch as  :lipsrsealed: on the freeway going to school and around town.

goal for the next few days:
wire up CB
mount shocks
wire up rocklights

thanks for the pics DTB....what size shocks are those
