lift questions
« on: Aug 26, 2007, 02:56:39 PM »
I have a 1983 truck and I'm having trouble deciding on what kind of lift to go with. I live in Louisiana, so rock crawling is not what we do down here. I will be using my truck 80% of the time on the road. This is my 5th toyota 4x4 I've had. My last truck was also a 83, I had 3" body lift along with 5" skyjacker suspension lift, 38 12-50 tsl super swampers. It was very stiff and really did not care for body lift. All my other trucks had 33" tires or smaller. So, to get to my questions. I would like to run the same tires ( 38 12-50) but would  run 36 12-50 tsl's if I had to. I have been looking at All pro, Trail Gear, and of course Marlin. How much lift do I need, and some imfo on the products of the company 's listed. I've been reading alot about spring sag, I guess it has alot to do with what kind of wheeling you do, will these springs keep their lift with only ocassional off road use ( mud .) I would also like to know what kind of time  and tools it takes for someone to install one of these kits. I've got a friend who turns wrenchs for a living and also likes 4x4's.but don't want to tie up a bunch of his time or shop. just wondering, hope someone can help with questions. thanks

Marlin runs 87 inch tires with 4 inched of lift. For what you are wanting to do I would not spend the big bucks on a rock crawling suspension, wich is what the names you listed are.. Surf ebay... you can get a rough country 3 inch pretty cheap,  Source some of the not so main stream toyota companies...  Not that Marlin, and all pro and the like are bad company's, but they specialize in rock crawling, not muddin, wich is what most of us east coast guys like...
