old truck, new guy... lift questions with pics !
« on: Aug 31, 2009, 08:24:39 PM »
howdy!
just got a new daily, a 85 pick up xtra cab, with a 7"  lift with 33" tires and  goodies a month ago.
and now im looking for upgrade it...as a any guy with a new toy.

I have a set of superlift springs in the front ( 7" lift )  part # 7007
and  stock springs with an add a leaf sitting on two blocks.
the truck sits straight...the front is equal to the rear.

after lookin for that " flexing " back there, a friend told me to remove the blocks before something can happen.
also the wooble is horrible on the streets..and not to mention fwy.

now heres the main question:
Im looking at the Marlin, trail gear , sky jacker or even procomp leaf springs.
but dont know wich one to get ? how high ? i even found some skyjackers 7" lift, ("  stock bolt on location ..." ) as rep said.

or should i get a set of 6" marlin's or even 5" trail gear spring set?
i "heard " that i need to get the fronts leafs a little higher  in order to compensate the engine load compared to the rears.

fronts 7" spring tend to get 6" because of the load, so the rear has to be 6" ? is that th right approach in my case?
because i have less than 11 posts cant post a pic, so heres the link.

help me to get rid of this..!

thanks in advance

I don't know much (refer to all my threads about things I don't know) but what I do know is that those blocks in the rear look scary.  The first thing I would do is get rid of those blocks.  Or at least get rid of the smaller one so you're not stacked double like that.  The second thing I would do is post some pictures of the front end and the steering set up.  If someone did something as shady as double stack lift blocks chances are there is more safety hazards all around.

As for springs, you really can't go wrong with Marlin.  They'll give you the lift you're looking for and later on down the road when you start worrying about flex you'll realize, "Hey, these Marlin springs flex great too.  Sweet.  Who's got some lockers for sale?"

I've got Marlin 4" up front and 5" out back.  I was more worried about the added weight of the 4Runner top sagging the rear of the truck, not the front.

Stay away from Trail Gear though.  That is just my  :twocents:

thanks guys..!
i would really like to get the full kit, but cant right now  i need to focus on the rears only...
later on i can go to the fronts springs.

taliking about the front.
they're sitting on the axles and  the gear box  comes with a S shape tube and some adapters for the steering link.
i will take some pics of it.... probably is not the greatest hi-steer kit either.... need to adjust the nut to loose the woobling steering feel.

about the springs:
based on the lift i have in the front.  im on 33" tires , 3" in blocks and an extra leaf in the back...
what spring height should i look for the rears ? how much does the fronts usually  sags in order to look for the rears?
i just want to get even look...or an inch lower in the back..if i fail to get the right height..

what would you guys look for in order to nail it?

i was about to get some 6" skyjacker springs from my local shop...but somehow i didnt trust the sales rep.. lol

with 33's you definatly want 4" springs. it will ride better, take corners better and wheel better.
i would do 4" front and back, if the back ends up too low put that lower block back in and you can get some height out of that. and while your at it get a hi-steer kit, you wont regret it.

oh my 2 cents go with marlin or all pro.

Just so you know the rear Marlin, All Pro & TG springs don't bolt to the factory locations. You will have to cut & weld. The ride is better due to the longer spring. All the springs that are a direct bolt in will ride way too stiff & won't flex  :twocents:

if the back ends up too low put that lower block back in and you can get some height out of that.
Install longer rear shackles. Stay away from blocks if you can.

I will agree!  Stay away from the blocks in the rear!  4in marlin or allpro will be well worth moving the hangers and shackles. Should clear 33's just fine

the 4" lift with stock shackles will be enough then?  it will sit even or a little higher in the front..?

or 3" lift with 5" shackles as someone mentioned me before....?

I would go 4" marlins front and rear... the weight of the motor has some effect but not enough to go 5" in front.  If anything, i would consider removing a leaf or two and lowering the back (can be a little stiff).  I've seen 5" springs cause people to lose 4wd because of the extreme driveshaft angle up front, so if your not up to the task of cutting and turning your axle or doing dual cases, stick with the 4 inchers with either stock or 1" over stock shackles.

Today tuesday im ready to order..
i have two companies which looking at their 4" rear kit.
im not a hardcore offroading guy, but who knows later.

so im wondering:
there's another dealers selling MC rear kits , besides MC ?

the reason : i found a couple of dealers of the other kits located in
other states wich they carry free shippping and tax exempt.
im not cheap but i want to get the best deal that i can get.

as a newbie im not biased by any company, and im eager to get my kit today.

both kit runs for the same amount. the only diff is shipping and tax..lol

where you guys go their MC kits besides here ?
thanks
