front lift questions
« on: Jul 10, 2010, 11:00:44 PM »
Hey has anyone out there run a rear pack under the stock front main leaf? I want a little lift enough to level the rear out with 63s. I dont have the money for high steer this year cause of college matters. but i still want a flexy weekend wheeler on my first gen. Do i need a longer shackle? brake lines? i know i need shocks. Bump stop extentions??

Thanks guys please  :help:

welcome to the site, please browse the forum. you will find all you are looking for.... it isnt a good idea to put extra leafs in the front of the pack to soften the ride and make it flexy.....

stock front leaf pack with a single leaf from a chevy (early 80s) pack under the main leaf...

in the pick on side is stock other side is the "hybrid" and is running 35's that RUB lol...   everything else is stock (except the shocks)... even the steering...and obviously it still flexes decently

i ran RUF's with the pushpull for a while. had to modify my steering obviously... just shortened it and flipped the ball. ok didnt flip the ball, i cut a ball off and welded it ontop of the other one, then torched the lower ball off. making way for my uh "u bolt" elimination kit lol...

i have since converted to crossover but lowsteer.... i was tired of the brake steer and not being able to steer it while flexed...

i did search and ive only found bits and peices from pirate. how is this not good? i dont see how adding leafs is a bad thing. it should be the same as RUF but the center pin doesnt move so i dont need high steer. id just like to see if anyone has done RUF but retained the main leaf

My truck is being built now and we used stock rear mains on top of all pro 5 in lift and put those mains in the bed of the truck and now we just look at them.  and f 150's will go in back, still building hopefully finish that today or tomorrow.

You will need longer brake lines. I'm running stock ruf with high steer. I needed longer brake lines. You will need to do something for your steering also probably bleakhorizon's set up will work well. Longer shocks. Bumpstops are not so much important. I don't run them but my overloads stop it, and my ubolt would hit my frame and bottom out before I hit my steering or anything else.

Heres my pile. It has a 3" body lift (getting ditched soon), homebuilt hanger (getting ditched soon), and 2" longer shackles. Stock 87 ex cab ruf, and stock rears out back. Its on 35s and does ok.
