I have a family of 6 & have a 87 4Runner. I will be adding a third row bech seat soon so I have no place for my 35" spare tire. I don't want to mount it up on the top cause I take the top off in the summer, the tire is just to heavy for me to lift up that high & it's a clearance issue. I have other plans for the body in the future so I don't want to mount it to the rear  bumper yet. I don't even know if I going to keep the rear bumper that on it now or make my own. Also going to mount my Hi-Lift jack to it.

As I build it I will update the thread. I'm building a swing out carrier. The tire will sit to the left side. I'm using 2" reciever tube & 2" DOM.

Here is what I have so far. I cut the square tube 3" past the flange of the hitch. I cut 2 pieces of the 2" DOM 27" long. I welded one on each side.

My brother did this on his 4Runner here's a picture of it on the truck I'm sure I have a better picture somewhere on my computer I'll keep looking. Worked pretty good and that's a 35" on there.

If you can find some pic's that would be cool  I know what I want to build  but I still early in the build that if I changed something it would be no big deal.

He's mounting his on his receiver through the hitch making it completely removable. Kinda like a bike rack but for his tire.

Well since time is running out  :shocking: for me to get ready for MCR6, I had to get this done. I got in a hurry & didn't secure the passenger side of the top tube so it got tweaked when I welded the support tube  :smack: I don't have enough material nor do I have time to fix this so it will have to stay  :hammerhead: I'll finish this in the next few days.

This is the almost finished carrier. I used a trailer hitch pin to lock the swing out right now cause the welder ran out of wire. I'm going to use freeze plugs to cap off the open ends of the pipe. I used wire ties to attach the license plate cause again I ran out of wire. I'm also going to mount a license plate light, back up lights & wire them to the trailer plug.
