I agree fully

I feel that seatbelts fall under the same category.  Sure, they're a great idea, and no one will deny that they save lives.  But it should be MY choice whether I wear one or not, not the government's

I disagree. With seat belts, they can help you maintain a position of control in an accident, thus I believe are required for safe driving. If you get T-boned you'll stay in the drivers seat instead of the passenger or the back seat. I've gone head first through a windshield in a minor accident and the car rolled around for a few seconds with my upper torso hanging out over the hood.

The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first.

Not to be argumentative...but, how could wearing a helmet on a bike ever be bad?

This is regarding helmets, is a bit off the main topic, and might upset some-

If people would like to wear a helmet, then that's cool as long as it is optional. If they start requiring us to wear helmets, then I will be extremely pissed.

It is my personal opinion that having a required helmet law for on road motorcycle riders, off road motorcycle riders, and any other ATV rider, if a required helmet law exists, IS AGAINST OUR RIGHTS.

I do not have any experience for off road use, so speaking for on road use, I think it is oppression, harassment, obstructive, limiting, restraining, constricting, and any other synonym word for a restriction you can come up with. Do I wear a helmet when I ride on road? Yes because it is a requirement by law. Would I wear a helmet when I ride on road if it was not a requirement by law? Only if I wanted to. Period.

The can just got opened up, now lets see some worms jump out! :moods: :moods: :moods: :moods: :moods: :moods: :moods: :moods:

i'd have to agree with this.  soon as we are required to wear helmets there will be people that wont and we might get shut down.  there are places i go very near my house where i have seen guys fly around the inside of the vehicle becuase they werent wearing their seatbelt.  it was his choice not to and luckly there were no injuries but he usually wears his belt now when things get rough.  in the same area i have been doing medium speed whoops and hit my head a few times where a helmet would have saved me a headache.  would have been nice to have but not required.  as long as its a choice all should be well.

There is no helmet law in FL, but there are strict seatbelt laws! WTF is up with that! In fact, there WAS a helmet law and they rescinded it a few years ago. Deaths as a result of Motorcycle accidents went up.
What are the odds!  :hammerhead:
But I agree it should be a CHOICE.

On your head?  :dunno:

:slap:   I'm not going to wear one for the entire trail ride! :shake: And with those high back buggy seats I'd have to say it would be highly uncomfortable to wear one anyway.
Oh well, it is still my choice not to wear one.

But I WILL wear my 5-point. I've got to encourage Mark to wear his, at least loosely. He only wears the lap belt.

I'm not saying that I'm a firm believer in seatbelt and or helmet laws. and I feel the same about gun control. But their should be laws. when to wear when not to. The only problem is that idiots mess it up. the guy at the dessert who decided not to wear his seatbelt and helmet even if he wanted to die now seriously messed up some peoples vacations and wrecked his family. why because he was too cool for school to be bothered by a helmet or belt? ARE YOU SERIOUSE! :willynilly:

It takes 5 seconds to do a belt and a helmet so what you have to carry a helmet around a big 5lbs? can you handle that? whats that 5lbs and the pain of you have to LUG IT through the store gonna do? ummm lets see  save your family and friends grief of your loss, save people the time and money from going out their and scooping up your exploded skull. Ive seen to many friends die in Iraq and Buddy's who come home to get street bikes think their superman and wad their bike and die.... I had one last week in Virginia wreck his bike and die left behind a wife 4 kids and one on the way.... just got back in country 4months ago  :-\ .

As far as being on the trail.. you can throw on a protech bmx helmet and strap it on. takes about as much space as your 24pk of twinkies.

BUT yeah theirs always a BUT the laws have to be governed by us not by power happy dumb :moon: :moon: :moon: who have never been off road or ridden a bike. Because when they get their hands on it their gonna do what the greeinies do and soon where gonna have helmets that inflite and coat us in a ball of foam if we tilt so far as to look at our toes. Most laws come because people are idiots and they see a need for them.. If theirs no need their no law. you know how it works washingtons lazy

and that is my  :twocents:

thats the right kinda helmet you want for wheeling. street motorcycle helmets are designed to take that 1 impact, not take multiple impacts. dirt bike helmets, bicycle, and skateboard helmets are the options you want to go with.

this is a good thread.

I have been thinking about it.   Ive had lots of mountain biking accidents where i was glad i had one on.  Couldn't help but think about my head bouncing off of a tube, sheet metal or a rock if ya go over.

and the Pro-tec's at least look somewhat cool.

I would think the heavier (motorcycle) helmets would cause more of a whiplash.  Even though it'd protect your head your neck/back would be messed up.  I mean comin off a rock could be pretty jolting.  The lighter, better quality the better I'd say :dunno:

a guy in Brads crew at the Hammers this year wore just a basic skate helmet most of the time. I think its a good idea to have one handy to use for those of us that hit the hard lines. take it off when just cruising and strap it on when its time to  "hold my rootbeer (wink wink) watch this!!"

Blingn

I have nailed my nogen rolled at moonrocks going thru vcrack, we were wheeln choppermans rig and if you guys have seen that rig it is a chop top and the cage is close to the nogin.  Chopperman wore his the whole time and I didnt want to wear mine.  Lets just say after that I wore mine the rest of the trip.

Blingn

Look on the back left of the cage.  That is the passanger helmet I used, but this is at hammers.

i know this has nothing to do with wheeling but a helmet/hard hat might have been good

this was just a bump on the head from a forklift.  now i know why its advised that you wear a hard hat.  i still dont.

I would never wear a helmet while wheelin. I only wear my lap belt unless I get into and area that I have a good chance of rolling.  I have a buddy that wears a helmet on the trials.  I feel safer in my buggy than I do in my other trucks. I even had a DPS officer tell me that my buggy is probly safer for me than my other trucks.  :dunno:

I'm just saying, having 200 feet of .250 tube and a 5 point harness( I wear it always on the street) around me makes me feel safer than and seat belt and sheet metal. I know cars and trucks are safer than they were 20 years ago, but still. I feel safer. Sorry if know body agrees, but that is ow I feel.

Also, look at Nascar, they survive (most) 180 mph crashes. They don't have air bags. Granted their saftey eqiupment is better than what I or most of us have but still.
