Exhaust manifolds?
« on: Jul 22, 2007, 11:15:34 AM »
What type of exhaust manifold is factory on a 87 22re?  Is it the header style or the open chamber style?
Here's what's on there now!

And the downtube is a twin tube design!  Help please!  I really need this info!

The one om my 87  is open in the center, not like the one you have on you engine. I took a pic of the down tube. I hope this helps  :crossed:

How close are you to Roseburg?

The 1st pic is a 20r manifold. The pic with the header pipethat tall chevy350 posted is a 22re manifold.

I'm about 5 hours away from Roseburg.

I figured that it was for another engine!

The guy I got it from, had the one the other one, but said this one is better and all I would have to do it bend the pipe to clear the cross-member!
Then I find out it isn't gonna work, after I paid to have it surfaced and the air injection holes welded up!     But for free and since I'm new about Yota's, I'm learning!  I would like a header, but the good ones aren't cheap!  Maybe later!

I'm gonna contact the guy I got it from tomorrow before work, while I'm at the parts store, that's where he works at!

I believe the mid 80s manifolds are actually a tri-y design, much like most good headers.  They're really not bad.

That's the down pipe I have, and it hits the bellhousing, the crossmember and the torsion bar mount by the frame.  And it still has an 1" to go to even fit the studs on the manifold!  I'm looking for the one like MiniSimp has.  I got some feelers out right now, but won't know till Sunday!  Then I'll start calling some wrecking yards in the valley!

The manifold on the right is the 20r style, big open chamber.  The other is the header style for the 22r!  I've been told the 20r style is better overall, and doesn't crack like the 22r.

This is the twin tube downpipe like Jimbo has!

And the mystery item?  Can you guess what this is, and what has happened?

Only in a town like mine, can you do this!!  It came this way!  I just found out it was done!
