charging problem
« on: Apr 07, 2004, 03:49:47 PM »
I am having a charging problem I have put a new alternator and voltage regulator in so far and I am still not charging... I have checked all of the wires to make sure that nothing was being grounded out and everything seems far I have gone through 3 alts from Kragen so far the people look at me funny when I tell them to test it before I trade it in. Everyone of them is bad right out of the box. If anyone has any idea on this problem plz tell whatcha know thanx.

First of all I never had good luck with any electrical components from kragen ie alternators, starters, etc. You might check and see if your battery is good and recheck all your connectiions.

CSK sells the biggest selection of turd parts of any national chain In existance!!  I never shop there for hard parts.  I still get chemicals towels etc. there but I know better than to waste my time & energy on constantly replacing their "lifetime" junk!

I am electrically retarded so I dont know the name of the part but my buddy had this happen the other day so he went to a Yota bone yard and bought the entire fuse panel from underneath the dash and took his old one out and put the new one in.  It worked great.  He looked inside his old one, GREEN MILDEW type chit all over the diodes and such.  Best we could figger is his truck was a drowning victim before he bought it, look like water got in his fuse box.

Are you talking about the charge lamp relay..I have seen them go bad but very very few..Never theless it could be the problem...Also depending on the year of your toy I have seen the books for the alt testers had the wrong set up for the system and all the parts people do is smoke the alt..i have seen carquest and shucks or kragen do the same thing..I want to say they can't test the internal reg alt like on a F/I toy..I don;t know what the problem is but some of those books are wrong and the parts people are not that smart..I have had better luck with getting a napa alt or going to the bone yard to get a non reman stock alt..Even if it come from there if its a stocker and not a reman it will outlast most reman alts that you buy form a parts house..Yea,,napa is lifetime but when your in a bind it works..I was out wheeling and got one from a bone yard because none had it in stock..I am still using it today and its been in my rig for about 3 yars not..Longer then a parts house reman w/lifetime warranty alt has ever lasted in my toy..I would get my money back and go to napa..

I dont think it is the charge lamp relay.  He replaced the entire fuse panel under the dash.  he was only gonna do one part of it till he found it corroded so badly.  It was a white plastic box that held a bunch of fuses.  As soon as he hooked it up, the electrical system started charging again.
