Charging System Problem? ? ? ? ? ? ?
« on: Feb 02, 2006, 04:51:45 PM »
Hey Guys ____ WHERE is the” voltage regulator” LOCATED on an 84 22r 4runner, I know on an 85 22re it’s in the alternator. I’m having symptoms of a faulty alternator. Charge light on, its running rough, and the tachometer is going crazy (up and down) wipers slowing down. I did tap on the alternator once and the symptom disappeared but came back, I’m also thinking intermittent alternator (worn brushes) problems, had it checked out, it was good. So, just for good measure I’m going to replace the voltage regulator for good measure and go from there. Any ideas are WELCOMED ________ THANKS in advance BAYRUNNER

voltage reg is on driver side in front of the ignition coil, at least thats where mine is, think i paid 30 bucks for a new one when i cooked mine.  its a copperish/brass colored little box with a plug with either 6 or 5 prong IIRC

:smack:  crap just thought of this, when i had my charge system problem one of the wires from the alternator to the voltage reg was melted from the exhaust manifold might wanna check that too i replaced mine with a new wire and rerouted it away from the exhaust manifold to avoid that happening again
