All right i have a 79 toyota that i changed the motor to a 22r. and i am still running the 22r alternator. the problem is that when i throtle on the motor the charge light goes on and when you let off it goes off. i was thinking that maybe the 20r syestem ran off of a negative circut and the 22r systen ran on a positiive circut or viseversa. i could use the help. thanks

i have a 22R  but run  the 79  alt  in the stock position and a celica  alt  on the pass side for all the extra's

if u did'nt change the wiring use ur old alt  u did'nt say what the new moter year is . so i'm guessing it's a newer alt .

the new motor and alternator is out of a 83. after i charged up the batty the light just stays on. the reason i dint use the old alt is because some body stole it off the orig inal truck.

if the regulators have the same plug and same number of wires then use the other one you have, if not get a new one

Just something to keep in mind I battled the charge/brake light problem for a while, changing out alt's messing with everything electrical, I finally gave up and took it to a pro, he informed me that the charge & brake light serve as a primitive "check engine" light.  He rebuilt my carb and replaced a bunch of vac. switches, lines, ect. nothing to do with the charging system and it is off now.  Every once an a while if I lug the motor down or if it pings heavily I'll see the charge light flicker, so maybe there is something to it.

all right the charge light stoped working now i was wondering were the charge light relay is hiding at i need help>
