LOL.  I suppose I should update my own thread.  I figure I could just do a "it's done post"

Well I guess we did give up taking progress pics.  :headscratch:

We kind of did.  I was planning on taking a few close ups of some of the finished work or something.

At least a pic of it flexed out or something. Maybe dig back into old pics for to create a spliced before/ after comparison?

So let's see. What all has happened since the last update..  :headscratch:

Since the last photos, we moved the front hanger forward and fixed the shackle angle.

Here is a pic of my first cutout with the Plasma.  Full length brace for the wheel well.  My circles could have lined up better, but o well.  I did not do the welding, The Man did that.

One of the more annoying things that happened during the process after getting all the axles assembled and plumbing all the ARB lines was the fact that the first test of the brand new re-geared front locker just blew air straight out my breather valve.  :snare:

I had to remove the front Diff thinking I had to take it back to the diff shop. Naturally I thought I screwed up the copper line or something.  After bench testing and some phone text help from fj-rankenstein I was able to identify and fix the problem and reassemble the next day.

In this photo the yellow is where I could feel the air blowing.  This is the after correction photo, but it turn out the large C-clip holding the seal housing on the bearing journal was not clipped into the bearing adjuster nut (Hope i'm using the correct terms). So the seal housing was just sliding off the end.  That was definitely not anything I did, and makes me nervous about the bench test.

Reassembled and all good.   :beerchug:
My tech tip for the year. Make sure that C-clip is fully clipped in before assembly.

Without further ado, as she sits now.

First, I had a lot of help that I am grateful for.  Thank you (SSIC OFFROAD and John Doe)

Second, I am very pleased with how it turned out. It is a little taller than I planned on but that is ok, as it will settle some.

Up next. Photos in some rocks!!

Looks awesome wermz

Thanks.  I appreciate it.

So question:

How much more noise should I expect with Yukon diff gears?   I know they are suppose to be a bit noisier but I'm not sure how much.  Reason I ask is because at freeway speed I do get a pretty loud whine noise.   Not under acceleration or load but in that transition period between load and coasting.  It was loud enough for me to go home and check all my fluids in my trans/t-case, and diff to make sure I didn't screw something up.  I'm sure that I am extra paranoid after the ARB C-clip incident.

Dingman.

The only time i have ever heard my diffs making noise were when a bearing was bad, when the gears were broken to hell.  Or if the pattern was bad.

I've never had any make noise that I've set up. Are you inclined to pull the 3rd and check it?

Any luck?

Yup.  It made zero noise yesterday while on my way to the shop to inspect it.  :dunno:

So I left it and worked on other stuff.

Just got back from Prairie City, doing a little shake down run and all I can say is Wow!  :o

The truck performed flawlessly and way better than I imagined esp for the first time out.  I got to try things I was never able to do before and got some sweet rock rash. :hyper:

I will get some pics up soon.

I wheeled my 80 in bone stock form other than welded rear and 4.7 case for about 2 years after getting out of my built samurai. I will say some of the best wheeling I've enjoyed was in that stock 1st gen. I dig how yours is built now though for sure.
