I am about 30 minutes from the SJ/Hemet area and it is one of the last locations that doesn't have the SoCal attitude to it. Among the tract houses that have sprung up remain a whole lot of farmers. You could take someone from the Midwest and place them in Hemet and they might not know the difference (other than the gas prices). ;)

x2  San Jacinto is NOT typical SoCal atmosphere.  If your short on time I'd still suggest stopping by AllPro.  I assume that the concert is at the Indian reservation.  AllPro isn't that far away from there.  Besides, it isn't going to take you an hour to tour the shop.

The only people in Hemet are old people and young people who moved ther by mistake . JK you will be fine, slow pace lots of farmers and retired people. It is still far enough from LA to not have the attitude, and fontucky is between Hemet and LA and a redneck shield of sorts. I bet we can get a wheelin trip together if you want and I go thru there to get to the hammers.

Good...I think my head would blow up if I ever went to LA. All I know is it's at some sort of casino, so yeah, it's probably on a reservation.

From the looks of it, they still have a Western Auto there. You never have to be concerned about me going to a Starbucks.

Well, I just got back home. The show was very good. My sister is friends with the guys, so we got the royal treatment (it doesn't hurt that she's beautiful and they're guys!), hung out on the bus and drank with them after the show.

As for my first trip to this Tartarus of political ideology...my soul wasn't attacked by angry mobs of Santa Ria practitioners, silicone knockered self absorbed starlets or rabid tofu eaters. There were no unpleasant episodes with tree-huggers strapping themselves to the virgin wood, no PETA zombies attacked me while I was dining on my extra lean burger! Oddly enough, I've heard more adults say "dude" here in Tucson than in Hemet. All in all, I was surprised at how "normal" the place is. There is an outlet mall on I-10 that has to be the Parthenon of instant gratification, credit destroying, purchasing overindulgence...it seemed to me, it was located on at least 4 miles of prime freeway real estate.
I was, however, shocked by how dirty the drive in was on I-10. I would've thought, with all the taxes y'all pay and tree-huggers on every corner, it would've been cleaner. I-10 was a dump! It looked like Katrina ravaged NOLA. I haven't seen that much garbage on the public roadways, since D.C. in the 70's. San Jacinto/Hemet was/is a nice enough place, it looks like it's growing like crazy. The only negative about the area is...Good grief, the smell at night could knock a buzzard off a :pokinit: wagon! We stopped into a Mobil station at Sanderson and Ramona...I almost started crying when I got out of the car. I have never been presented with such an assault on my senses. An acrid, ammonia scent that brought to mind a 5 acre diaper pail baking in the summer sun. I've lived near paper mills, cattle ranches and hog farms (Mmm, that's sweet on a Iowa summer night!). Nothing I had previously experienced could've prepared me for that first kick in the face! My eyes and nose burned, after a total of maybe 5 minutes exposure to this toxic perfume, the smell had burned itself into my hair, skin, clothes and psyche...I may have to seek professional help to get over the emotional scarring. I could smell it on my mustache hours later. The next morning on the way out of town I expected to see a great looming "Chernobyl Self-defense Spray of Death" factory...but I saw nothing out of the ordinary...one little feed lot off in the distance. If the feedlot was the source of the nightmarish odor...what in the hell are they feeding those poor cows? Is the ASPCA aware of the goings on at that gulag of beef?

I have never smelled a cattle operation like that...and I grew up across a creek from a ranch north of Dallas.

Thankfully, I have been able to avoid the Hemet odors at night (although Chino is quite aromatic at night  :reg:). The outlet shops on the I-10 (near yet another casino) are quite the attractive nuisance. We have hit traffic there on the way to the Hammers due to the mobs of minions looking for the latest bargain. :tantrum:  Next time the sis leads you on another concert adventure, you need to plan a wheeling trip too.

This is my "baby" sister Kelly and Darryl. She is just eaten up in love with him. He's got some"dedicated" fans...I met a woman at the show from Jackson, MS. that show was her 85th in 4 years, she and a woman from Bakersfield left the next morning to go to Bishop (?) to see another show...at some mule jamboree!

I would love to. All those mountains around there were callin' me. I just have to make sure I'm indoors by nightfall or the trip has to be a less pungent place. Do the people there ever get used to that smell?

I was in Jersey last year...it was cleaner than I-10. I tell you what, the stretch of road between Indio and Blythe at least serves to impress me with the courage of the people who went there in wagons...good grief that is some inhospitable country! Kind makes Yuma look less harsh.

Last summer on the way to Fresno/Kingsburg and Disneyland, I was noticing how much garbage is along the hwy's.  I thought we in Oregon had some dirty hwys, but 99 was horrible!  At least the road beds are better in California than up here.  I'd go back!

Yeah, and the 99th st, 98th st, 97th st, and so on, was very bizarre.  And it would start all over again when you reached a new county!   So you never knew what turn off to take!  Glad it was a good trip!

I too noticed the difference on the highways between CA and AZ or NV, you should see the crap that flows down the storm drains to the ocean in the rain, it's incredible. It used to be when I'd drive to work I would wonder what am I gonna hit on the freeway today. I went to get my AZ license the other day and it was so easy and there were lots of people working at the counter. In CA you're lucky if there are 3 people working and you get out in under 3 hrs. CA's money seems to go everywhere but where it should.
