If this is approved.

I know that there is quite a bit of interest in doing a Clean-Up the Tower day or weekend from one of the clubs I'm in called 4x4Him Christian Wheelers. Could turn out to be a neat event.

That would be great, i'll definately let you know if I hear anything back , i've been looking for a club to join too  :psss:

Question: (again from the guy who towed his boat 6 hours to Shaver and hasn't wheeled there yet:disturbed: How would you rate the trail to the tower (easy, moderate difficult)? How far in miles and time is the tower from a paved road?  The reason I ask is it is likely you will receive more support from outside donations and the likelihood of it being staffed by volunteers on the weekends if there is easy (or somewhat easy) access to the tower. :twocents:

If you hear anything from Kathy Ball, the thread should be renamed and placed on top as a sticky event.  :yesnod: I might just drive up to pitch in.  :_order:

I'd say easy, but I can't remember exactly, I do remember bypasses on many of the obstacles on the way up to the tower but I wouldn't try to take a 2wd work truck up there. Maybe someone who knows the trail better can chime in  :dunno:, here's a link to the map of the trails up there: http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=27400.0

I know i'd be more than willing to load up my truck and haul as much up there as I could

After following the link, it looks like your Fresno area trails sure are limited this year. :( Any thought on some input from the 4X4 Club of Fresno (who built and maintains the trails) on rehab of the tower. They might know the right people to go through with the Forrest Service to receive permission. :twocents:

one- there are two ways to get to the tower = rockcreek rd & tamerack rd(sp). Two wheel drives can make it on the tamerack side. most stock 4wd's can make it up the rockcreek side

two- Bald mtn is open year round, some of the roads leading to bald are closed seasonly.

three-Fresno 4wd Club is not responsible for bald mtn

If its a weekend cleanup, i'd be more than in.

I'm currently in So. Cal, but its worth it.  Maybe someone has connections with lumberyards who are willing to donate (or reduce) cost?? :usa:
Didn't see any real problems with the frame (from what i remember last summer with Talon84x4) but if we had specs on the grade of steel (mild, medium, or high carbon content, etc.) it wouldn't be that bad to determine how much strength the tower has left and what it can support.  Yield strength at the lower temperatures will only be a problem if the steel is high-strength (lots of carbon), otherwise the temperatures it experiences shouldn't be a problem

Actually C.O.B. stands for Clovis Okie Boys
One of our members goes to Clovis High & knows 6 of the 7 who did the damage
They said they wanted to help ......... we will see where that goes
I was on the trail that day with BirdDog & Fred
The kids didn't appear to be from the dark side

Excellent news there.  This is a chance to turn some kids on the fence over to the good side, folks.  Let's not screw it up.  We've all had our fun as youngin's before we knew the true consequences of our actions.

If they fessed up, and are willing to help out - I think the bigger lesson learned here in life for them just may ensure them to be better people, rather than flush down the toilet.

It pleases me to hear that they may turn out to the be the type that don't deserve an ass-kickin', but rather some guidance.

In the long run, things will be better for them, and us, and everyone.

Good to hear, I don't think i've ever seen someone caught for something like that as fast as this one was  :dunno:

I'm glad they fessed and are willing to help clean up, not really what I expected but better outcome. Things will get cleaned AND hopefully a lesson learned.

Started doing a little reasearch and found this
here's the link: http://www.firelookout.org/cr-centcalifornia06.htm

I'm going to try to contact Kathryn Ball and see if they would allow someone to clean it up that's not associated with the forst service, like some local wheelers

couldn't hurt  :dunno:

Any updates?  :)

We had a great day of wheeling. But when we got to the top this is what we found. It was done today because it was not there yesterday. We found who we think did it & turned their info in to L.E.

Does anybody know what C.O.B stands for.

i beleive earlier in the post, months ago when this happened, that the miscreants that did it confessed and cleaned it up
