snatch strap...looks like a regular strap...ive had mine a few years..worht every penny!

http://www.arbusa.com/snatch_straps.php

This ability to stretch is a distinction between a snatch strap and a tow strap, ARB snatch straps are elastic when under load whereas a tow strap is not, the benefits of which are twofold. Firstly, the kinetic energy generated by the elasticity actually aids the recovery itself, and secondly, the elasticity greatly reduces the likelihood of vehicle damage during recovery. The enormous weight of each 4x4 and the weighted force of whatever caused the immobilization puts enormous strain on the point where the straps are attached, and without some elasticity, there is a substantial risk of damaging the vehicle. For vehicle recovery, a snatch strap is more suitable than a tow strap.

All ARB snatch straps are woven and fabricated to ARB specifications, and tested by a NATA approved laboratory. The 17,500 lb model is recommended for most 4WD vehicles, with the 24,000 lb & 33,000 lb straps better suited to heavier applications.

ive never been there but arent there bypasses on most of the harder obstacles?

Yes, my brothers friend took most the bypasses.  He did not do the hard lines with that set up but it just goes to show that a pretty close to stock rig can do the con.

If you take a stock Toyota on the Con your gonna get body damage... and probably smoke your clutch unless you bash.

Expect to be changing the clutch soon after coming out of the Con w/ stock gearing.

Yeah my bros friends S10 was an auto.  I didn't even think about that but it makes sense considering you will be slipping the clutch for the entire trail.

Be careful when you say that.  we're not talking a couple dents in the rockers or something.  thought you wanted to keep your truck fairly straight?  Of course, IIRC, you've got some sliders to put on, right?  if thats the case, I'd say you're good to go :yesnod:  sliders, and a rear locker and you'll be alright.  And a strap or two

I know it's not a good thing to say... not being afraid of body damage, and yes i did say i wanna keep her fairly straight... but at the same time, i am tired of doing all the easy stuff, i wanna do some [d] real [/d] wheeling... If i do go, i'm getting my ceramic clutch, rock slider's, and welding the rear end... The only other thing i gotta do is get some straps.... Sounds good to me..

of course you have to know where the bypasses are, we were the blind leading the blind last year, at one point, going by buck lake, I think, where you have to go over the dam (?)it was dark by then and the route was unclear, I was walking ahead with a flashlight asking people for directions while the caravan followed me

I believe it was Shamb that said I asked him and his GF for directions but I didn't know it was him :slap: You should have said something! Pretty obvious who the Mammoths are

You're not required to have one and for the most part you don't really need one, just follow the guy in front of you. Where a spotter is needed is in doing challenges like Soup Bowl.
Do you already have a lot of rock crawling experience?

yeah, you do want to have some experience trying to navigate the trail from the Loon Lake side.
I you just want to be there for the event and to meet people, coming in from the Tahoe side is not difficult till you get to Cadillac Hill.
It probably takes a couple hours (?) to come from the Tahoe side and it takes at least a good 8-10 hours or more.
I think we made it in about 8 hours the first year following Angelo from the shop (and I have heard that people who know all the short cuts can make it in less time still), and it was well over 12 hours, maybe 14 hours last year, granted we did have two breakdowns but that accounted for only a couple hours of repair time.
And it is only about 15 miles from Loon to Rubicon Springs :yesnod:

:talkingn:  yea I was pretty buzzed when I went over and talked to you. I think I remember yelling out "The Mammoths!"  and probably giving you some really terrible directions because it was dark.. LOL

military stang, when do you plan on being there and which side do you plan on going in on?

we always welcome anyone that wants to ride in with us, we also take it alot slower then most people so you wont have to worry about breaking or getting stuck.

We'll be coming in from Loon Lake side like last year.. I plan on being there a day before the event like last year only i'll take that day off completely and NOT pack and load up after work and get at the trail around 1-2 am like last year  :ack:

On welding the rear end i would peak and valley it. that way you can still put a locker in it later down the road. If you weld the spider gears together you cant take them out to put a lunchbox style locker in it, you would have to get a detroit of new carrier.  :twocents:
