Ok, here is the rear diff breather I did on the cheap!!  :beerchug:

I got the 1/8" barbed fitting, and sanded the threads down a little.  Since the factory threads are like 10mm x 1.0!  I followed 4crawlers instructions.  http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/WaterProofing.shtml#Breathers  And I used one of those thread chaser files to make it look good, and fit better.  Since the 1/8" threads are really tight, and reports of brass shavings falling into the gear oil if you don't, but you will have to torque the hell out of it to get it to thread in, if you don't.  I had some extra fuel line laying around, and I got a cheap fuel filter.

This is my break down!
1~hose barb       $0.63
2~hose clamps    $0.62
1~fram filter       $3.99
2'~fuel line         $4.00    I think, I've had it around from the engine swap.

For a total of $9.24!!

I got it ran up over the brake proportioning valve lever, to the remains of the spare tire rack.  And ran through a hole in a cross member.  The filter fits inside the cross member to keep it out of the way.  And a zip tie to keep it in place.  I'll eventually do this for the front diff!  I love cheap fixes! :yesnod:

You didn't do it right!  :bat: you didn't follow the yotatech instructions!   :shake:

 looks good.  You might want to run it a tad higher though.  I ran mine up into my brakelight housing.

Screw yotatech!  So, far 4Crawler hasn't done me wrong.

I would have loved to taken it higher, but for now that was the longest hose I had at the time.  And it will be changed once I get the flatbed done.  I should be good, since I don't do water crossings!  :driving:  I was doing it on the cheap!

Now all you need to do is zip tie a baby bottle nipple over the other end of the filter you have there and the breather is almost water proof.. Still relives as needed  just with no water comming back in.

I'm not worried about water proofing!  I spend more of my time on firebreaks, or logging roads.  I like to go to Sandlake and drive out chicken :pokinit: ridge and park along the tree line and watch all the idiots beat the crap out of their rigs on the first bowl.  And then drive out chicken :pokinit: ridge to go home!

Is it named that because it is easy, or is it a sarcastically hard trail?

There are two ways into, or out of the first bowl.  Chicken :pokinit: ridge or the wall of sand!  It's super easy.

Thanks!  Just wait.     I just told my local toyota parts guy, that my taxes will be in soon!  And to start getting me a front axle lined up.  He told me he has enough parts to build two complete axles.  HMMMMMM!!!  :eyebrow:  He's done me very well, alot of free parts and what I had to buy, was cheap!

Some little updates:

New shifter seat and socket for the tranny!  Was sloppy and now I have to actually think about gear selection, instead of just "slamming" it into gear.  This is what was in there.  I didn't get any pics of the new parts, I was in a hurry, but we all know what they look like.   YES, that is just a rubber gasket that was in where the thick shifter seat goes.  No wonder the gear shifter was as sloppy as a 2 bit sleeper!!!

And the axle shafts I got from Budking, and he wanted Marlin personally to ok them, before $ exchanged hands.  They came out of a 79 that Mike said looked like the truck never been off road.  :shake_head:  But Marlin said they were in excellent condition and showed us how to check for cracks in the bell.  Very cool tip!!   And Marlin threw on some seals for me, for FREE!!  How awesome is that?

And Marlin also told me how to fix my horn in my truck, at least 95% of the problem is the contact in the steering wheel is worn out.  And just needs to be shimmed up.  He also gave me some parts that should fix that.  That's why he's the man!!!

Well, I finally got my buddy to get enough brush cleared so he can get to his axle stash.  (trees got a little overgrown)  Well, here is the front axle.

It's missing some minor things, but nothing major.  Just the hub internals, and some nuts and bolts.  Needs the crossover setup, v6 rotors and calipers are gonna go on it.

Needs new ring and pinion!!!

Got some cleaning too!!

She came out of a 84 too!

Shafts too!

I got some cleaning to do, and some buffing (or sand blast some rust) to get this cleaned up.  And then I got some learning to do, so I can get this together.  But I figure it will be my summer project.

I'm really excited.   :willynilly:

Sweet!  Just hold on to them for a couple weeks.  I spendt $ this weekend, and now I need to balance the books.  I'll work out a time when I can buzz out and get them.  Since I know just about where you live.

I'm not in any big hurry to build these. I'm in the process of getting my shop straightened out.  And Marlin is still out of the front axle rebuild kits!  :shake:

Duffil

that is not an 84 axle. 84/85s have the long lower gusset. you have an early model axle.

Cheesemaker

So, yeah it came out of a 83, my bad.  :smack:  I was just excited!!  :willynilly:

It's been fun tearing it all apart.  The tool that saved my ass on this was the Brass Drift Punches.  WOW!!  Makes thing real easy.  Especially, with all the rust holding everything together like glue!  And all the grease I've had to clean out of the knuckle and hub assemblies.  I'm gonna have a mint just in grease when I'm done.

by the time this is done it will be the cheapest and cleanest sas toyota ever haha.

by the way i like the brew COORS LIGHT... its the silver bullet

Cheesemaker

If I had taken metal shop in high school, instead of wood shop, it would be a cheap build.  Now I'm regretting it.  :smack:  OH well!  But, I'm gonna be in line for
Dan to help me.

Right now, I'm waiting for Marlin to get in axle rebuild kits.  They have been out forever.  :whip:  That and the many little projects that seem to take up all my time.   :conf:  Right now, I'm helping some friends clean out his mom's house to get it ready to rent.  Got lots to do, paint, flooring, and the back yard is a jungle.  I spendt 4 hours cutting trees and brush and it looks like I didn't do anything.  :-\  And there is all the little honey do's and spending time in the yard with the kids.

It'll get sas'd, when I don't know, but I'm ready.

Just got back from the best place in the world.  Marlin Crawler!  Got me some parts and tools for the axle build, and some various other stuff.  What I really wanted was the rebuild kit, but Dave explained to me that there is a issue in getting them out of Japan.  But they are working on it at the moment.  Oh, well.  But I got stuff that I needed anyway.
I took Dave some jerky and cheese and he made the numbers work in my favor.  Thanks Dave!

But, I found a problem, but lucky for me, I have a NAPA in town, so I will try to exchange the rotor for the right one.

One of the rotors is thicker, smaller, and is for a five lug hub.

Finally got around to getting some Marlin parts on my truck.  I changed oil and then preceded to the T/C mount.  The old one has definitely seen better days, and was due to be replaced.  I saw some other things that need to be looked at later.    :o   There might be an issue with the d-line flange, one bolt doesn't look right.

I'll tell ya what, I knew there would be some noise from this heavy duty mount, but HOLY CRAP!!!  I think I might have to be tightening up some nuts and bolts on a regular basis.  But it smooths out a little when RPM's come up off idol.  So, the jury is still out if I will keep running this.  Since this is my DD.  If it was strictly off-road rig, it wouldn't be a issue.  But, I like how easy this new mount goes in.  The factory one was a sleeper to get out, especially the passenger side bolts.  Since I didn't want to disconnect the front d-line.  I'm definitely getting factory motor mounts.

Early

Sweet find on the axle, i just picked one up for less than 100. I didn't notice any extra noise with my HD T/C mount. I don't think mine was loose at all either. Maybe some lock tite. I've told you before but beautiful truck.

Thanks Early.  I wish I had more time and money.  Between work (I work 6 on and 2 off, it sucks), taking care of my step-moms place, the rental house I take care of for some friends, and family time, doesn't leave me with much time to wrench.  Unless, I absolutely have to wrench on it.  I just had to replace a rusted out brake line that runs along the frame.  Which sucked, cause I had to remove the bed, and drop the tank, which was full!   :shake_head:   And I noticed the high pressure fuel line has alot of rust on the outside of the line, so I need to look for a replacement.  WhiteTrash told me about using compression fittings, for the cheap.

I really love my truck.  I wished I hadn't wasted so many years driving a Nissan.  But I had to learn about 4x4 rigs somewhere.  And this Toy is a learning tool for me.

The showroom!!   :rofl2:  Their showroom is Marlin and Mike's trucks.  You walk into the front door, and your looking at a office full of squirrels answering phones.  Beyond the other door is the warehouse.  And then out and around is the think tank, repair and rebuild area.  The think tank, is only for Marlin.  Nobody is allowed in his "OFFICE!"
