nice lookin build. are you going to clean or paint the engine bay?

Cheesemaker

The engine bay is not that dirty.  It's the IFS that is grimy and gross!  But once I get it running, I'll get in there with the local splash and dash, and clean it!   :cheese:

Well, got the intake off, and picked up the water line that goes to the heater lines!  Got official word that the turbo injector isn't recommended for the 22re.  It's 295cc/in vs the 22re injector at 200cc/in.  The factory ecm might not be able to trim back the fuel enough, so it would be running rich!

And the fact that the bolts in this truck is 20 years old, and I've been replacing some of them!  I've been re-using the same bolts until I've broke some!  Luckily, the old bolts that hold the clutch to the flywheel are close enough to re-use in place of the broken ones.  That and some of the bolts are stretching!!  :yikes:  Almost broke a bolt in the water pump!  It wouldn't torque up, so I took it out and it grew 3/16"!!  Crap!!  So, I went and got new bolts for the intake!

I'm looking for injectors right now and I'm getting to the point that I'm really confused on which ones are needed!  You got the round connectors, square connectors, the different tab connectors and let's not forget about the low and high ohm injectors!  WTF!?  ???

So, hopefully this week, which I have off, I will get some work done!  At least get the motor installed and the exhaust on!  :crossed:

LaDawna Tyler (Dean's wife) and her mom are supposed to be here for the week! So, we'll have fun hanging and playing tourist!

Well, after not doing anything on the truck this week, I finally got busy!

I fought it for a little while, and man it's tricky to get that eye of the needle threaded!  The input shaft into the pilot bearing!  It took me at least and hour and half, but  :willynilly: it's in.

Then I sat down and made a list!  I still got alot to do!

Cooling system
~radiator
~hoses
~t-stat
Injectors
Check all wires and sensors
Splice in new coil wires
Rubber hoses, lines and clamps
etc. etc

And man that Marlin clutch feels AWESOME!!!

My free exhaust isn't working either!  The manifold is on, but the downtube doesn't hook up!  It hits the bellhousing and the crossmember.  I was told it may hit the crossmember, which was fine, but since I can't get it past the bellhousing, I'll have to get another exhaust!

The air chamber came that way from Snoshoebrue!  The motor came all painted up, and all the brackets and lower intake was all hand scrubbed and Krylon'd black by me!  Look back to the bell housing and that's what the old motor looked like!  I just couldn't see putting greasy, oily and dirty parts on!  I even scrubbed and hosed th wiring harness and all the connections!  If I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna do it right!  The fenders and firewall wiped clean pretty easy!  :cheese:

I have had problems with the exhaust I was given, and then I got the 22r exhaust manifold.  And I'm having the same problems!  The downpipe is hitting the bellhousing, the crossmember and the torsion bar mount!  CRAP!  Well, the problem is the downpipe after I got the other manifold, I see that the double tube downpipe isn't gonna work!  I need the the single one.  OK the search is on!  I'll make some calls today!

On the good side, I got injectors, ecm for a 85, and the bypass for the radiator (the one that wraps around the alternator) and the 22r exhaust manifold for $80.  I've gotten alot of stuff for free from this guy, and now I've finally got to pay for something!

Just some pics for reference!  The manifold on the right is a 20r style!

The twin tube design that doesn't fit my truck!

And the cat I'm re-using on the truck!

And the mystery pic!

what guts, there's no guts!  :yesnod:  You have to have a cat on, but who says it has to have the internals!   It came this way!  I finally got the turbo header pipe off!  And looked inside to see how the cat looks!

Here's the wiring harness after it got a bath!

Here's the old turbo engine just before I put it on the stand I made with wheels, and tarp'd it and rolled it under the work bench!

Here is the new motor, prior to the radiator, hoses and putting the ps pump back in place!

I'm just trying to do this on the cheap!  I want a header but the $ is going fast.  I'll get one later!  SO, far I got only $40 into it right now!

$40 Wow you Da Man!  Looks good!!

Cheesemaker

Thanks!

Buy the way that's $40 in the exhaust!  That was getting the air injection ports welded up, and surfaced!  The exhaust was originally free!  Later on I will be getting a Tri Y header, ceramic plated to keep rust to a minimum, and go to 2.25" exhaust!

Did some stuff but not alot to the truck.  Got the radiator in, it wasn't the one I wanted, but it will work till I can get the heavy duty one like I wanted later on!  And I painted the fins, cause I didn't want the aluminum to show through the grill.

Ground straps out of old speaker wire!

Got my injectors, and will be calling on getting them sent off and cleaned!

Got all the radiator hoses installed and trimmed to fit, some of them I had to go through the wall of hoses until I found the ones that had the right bends.  For some reason the ones listed wouldn't work.

And I will be stopping by a place in Portland for my last and final missing pieces to get this motor humming.
The place is ~ http://www.thetoyotaman.com/  I got some price quotes, and they seem a little higher than I'd like to pay, but it's better than full price for new!  They can order new stuff to!

But I still need:
~air box (i want to stay with stock right now)
~upper alternator bracket (one I got had broke and been re-welded and they did a crappy fix)
~the plastic air runner that goes between afm and tps
~the single exhaust down pipe

The only thing I don't like about those style ground wires is that they turn black/yellow and whatnot after a while. Nice job though!

Well, monday I'm sending off the injectors, I'm going with www.witchhunter.com for servicing, and I'm gonna have the cold start injector serviced too!  I was debating between them and cruizinperformance, but they never got back to me!  And the other was right away!  I've been tooling around with a bunch of little :pokinit:!  Loosing up and lubing screws and bolts that are rusty and dirty.  And messing with the new battery cables, and making wire leads for things!  I've got some wires that still need to be taken care of and checked to make sure they are all working!  Besides that I'm getting close, it's just the little stuff that takes time!
My wife had a dream last night that it was running!

I'm getting sick of people asking what the hell is taking so damn long, but these are guys that are arse holes to their significant others, don't have kids, would rather pay somebody to do the job, and don't have things like family and houses that take alot of time!  Screw them!  I just want to do this right, and by rushing to get it done will surely guarantee a problem later on down the road!
