Mine came from Carquest.  The guy I deal with down there always runs my purchases through a large account, so I get a break.  It cost me $38.   Contact TGMaul79 on this site.  He's always parting out rigs, and always has good prices.  I've bought stuff from him  many times.

I'd tear the motor out, and take a look at the motor itself.  Carefully take the cover off, things will go flying, and see what condition the brushes are in.  Here is a link to R Brown's site, and see if you can just replace brushes.  Mine were to far gone.

Forgot to tell yea. When I removed my CV shafts on my old truck, I replaced the studs with bolts, never had to take them out again but if I would have. It would have been allot easier.

Hopefully I find that hub part sometime next week, in that junk hole of a garage lol

No hurry there Toby.  Whenever you can get to it.  I went and put both of the flanges on, so I don't look like a goober.

Popping out those studs is easy, and putting them back in is just as easy too!!  I used a 2' long bar I had, to knock them out, and I just lined up the spline marks, and snugged them up!     I don't know where people think that they are a pain in the ass.

The only thing I have done to this rig lately was replace the headlights, and all they had in town was turds for lenses.  I am seriously thinking about Marlin's and upgrading the harness.  And getting some 60/100 watt h4 lights.

Then I will be getting :boobs: alot.  Can't be any worse than all those guys putting in those eye piercing blue lights that should be illegal.

But I just did this last week, now that I think about it.  http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=98501.0

I don't think you need to upgrade the wiring for the VisionX lights that Marlin sells. The picture is misleading. The lights I got (I confirmed the part number before ordering) are the OEM approved bulbs. They were not actually blue. There is a blue tinted version and also a higher watt version. Check out the VisionX website.  The ones I got from Marlin were the D series, I think.

The L series are tinted blue and are OEM approved but I was told by Vision X tech support the blue tint was more form than function as any tint will reduce the light output.

BD, I know if I stay with bulbs that are at factory wattage, I will be fine with stock wiring.  But if I upgrade to the next level of wattage, then I risk overloading the 28 year old wiring system.

I'm just stewing it all over in my head right now.  I always research and think things over for a long time before I tackle something.

Always a great way to do things. I passed the info along because I wasnt 100% sure which VisionX part number matched with Marlin's until they arrived. The blue bulb in the picture is a little misleading, but even Vision X uses a blue tinted bulb in their pictures.

I did the bulbs and housings and in combo with adjusting the angle of the lights I am very happy with the result. They illuminate farther down the road, and the lines and signs stand out more. I have the bulbs in all three of my cars now. I was upgrading from a similar upgraded housing/bulb combination.

Give it a shot, you can always go to the next level later.

I can verify that the VisionX bulbs and housings will work without any upgrade needed to the wiring. I bought them from Marlin a while back. They were worth every penny. They perform great and look awesome.

Yeah, its been a long time since anything has been posted on my truck.

What is sad, is the fact that I just drive and service my truck anymore.  I haven't gotten any more parts for it.  I had to replace an alternator last week.  And then the half moon gaskets this week.

Cheesemaker

Dan, I just got your PM.  I will get ahold of you at a better time.

I would love to get this thing crawling.  I just have hit a roadblock, called life.  So, things have been put on hold.  Which seems like forever.  But my kids are top priority in life.  I just dumped $1000 into a trumpet for my son, who's student level got smashed by some people at a football game.  My oldest just started college.  And it just seems like I get ahead of things, and then something sets me back.  It doesn't help that we are squeaking by financially.

I still need alot to be honest.  I need to put an axle together, I have parts to do it, but no gears.  Minus the steering.  I have a case, but need a 23 spline input.

I think I just blew a head gasket tonight!!

Won't know until later in the week.

Got in the truck at work to go home, and it started up kinda rough, and sounded like it was missing bad.  And blowing ALOT of white, sweet smelling exhaust.  I don't see water in the oil, but there was some white foam under the oil cap.  But we have been below freezing and my driving has only been just a couple miles back and forth to work, home and the grocery store.

I just looked, I only have 36,XXX miles on this motor.

Cheesemaker

Tell me about it Dan!!  I am so pissed that it happened.

But after thinking about it today, most of my driving is around 2 miles.  To work, to town, home, my moms, sisters, the hills, and to beach.  Its all between 2 to 5 miles at best.  Once in a while I do go for a drive.  I average 3000 miles a year.  And all of this isn't the best for any motor.

I took most of the day to clean up the shop and pulled in the truck.  I popped the radiator cap, and it was pressurized with air.  Then I pulled the hood, and then spark plugs.  #3 was wet.  All others were dry.  And chocolate milkshake on the dipstick.

I did a compression test, and all cylinders hit 180 to 185 repeatedly.  So, tomorrow, I will be starting to tear down the intake and exhaust.   :sad2:

Cheesemaker

Well, I spent 3 hours tearing stuff apart, and getting ready for pulling the head.

I found hoses that were about to go, and some other items that need to be replaced in the near future.  Found some bolts that seemed to be looser than others, but none broke or striped. Only one nut missing, but I have always had issues with the exhaust manifold to down pipe flange nuts.  Even after buying Toyota OEM nuts.  All thanks to a liberal use of never seize!  And parts of gaskets on the intake that seemed pretty thin.  Got the timing at TDC, and we see what the poor gal is needing tomorrow afternoon.

The overall issue!!  This is #3 & 4 cylinders shown, with the exhaust side at the bottom.  Alot of damage to the hg around the head bolt.  The head bolt was all rusty was slow getting out.

The are of the head bolt.  And cylinder 3 was the offending cylinder.

But look, whats this?  Cylinder 4 going bad too???   :snare:

The area in question on the block.  Some minor pitting.

The area on the head looks good.

Cylinder looks good, piston looks to be at .020 over.  Correct me if I am wrong.

And I found the original bags in a drawer from when I got the rebuilt motor, and it looks to be that he used Evergreen gaskets.  Amazon and Ebay were selling head and gasket kits, so this is probably that setup.  Oh well, I am learning.

Well, Toby (Bleakhorizon) said I should be fine with just cleaning everything up, and putting in a new headgasket.  But he also said, it would be a piece of mind, to have the surface of the head cleaned up at the machinists.  A good solid fresh start, and get new head bolts.  So this is the plan, I really don't want to be in this motor again for a very long time.  Do it right!!

I just got a shipment of seals and bearings from MarlinCrawler.  Time to replace the leaky axle seal, and all associated bearing in the rear axle.  Plus, got a pinion seal!

Sadly, I do not have a press and no backup rig.  So, I will be having somebody else do it for me.  Since it will cost less than a press and associated tools needed.   :shake_head:

I know I haven't been on here much in the last few years.  But here goes!

So, 3 years and 7 months later, I lost another head gasket!!!
I don't know whether I should laugh or cry!!   ??? :help:

And of course, I am in the middle of home repairs, and remodel, so I am broke as hell..
Big decision is now, what to do?  I have some research to do, and I have never been 100% happy with this motor from day one.  Its always been little things, nothing major until the first headgasket went.  We did everything right when we replaced it.  All OEM parts from 22REPERFORMANCE.  But now looking online, when did 22R's get so damn expensive??   I found shortblocks for $2000 and a 16 week wait.  Complete motors for $3000 and a 32 week wait!!   :yikes:

I purchased one of those motors (the best one they offer) and if you decide to fix the truck do some sort of swap. I spent mucho $$$$$ and it's still a 22RE. You will be much happier with a more powerful motor! I would say stash the truck and wait until you can getting something that is newer and easily swapped.

I'd like a more powerful motor, but its a 22RE.  Not much you can do, outside of doing some serious work to it.  A buddy has a 22RE with propane and a T3 turbo, and its dyno'd at 183hp.  Which he says in an Truggy, it puts you on its lid pretty damn quick.

I am more simplistic, and a stock 22RE is sufficient.  I have parts and pieces to start doing a SAS, but all the expensive stuff is still left to purchase.   Springs, drivelines, gears and lockers.  I do have a ifs front diff in the 4.56 flavor and if I can find a rear, that will help give it some pickup.  But I am not looking for fast off the line or land speed records.

So, I have some thinking to do.
