Found a Trekker...( now with pics )
« on: Apr 07, 2007, 08:18:57 PM »
The head gasket finally blew on my 88. After getting 75 dollars back out of it, I found myself in the market for another cheap Toy 4x4 that I could obtain fairly cheaply and quickly. I ended up finding an 81 22r Trekker 5sp, not in too bad of shape. The clutch needed to be bled, so I couldn't get a very good idea of how drivable it was, but this is going to be my DD. The odo reads 80,000, the seller says its not correct but estimates the mileage to be as low as 100,000-120,000 miles. The motor still feels very strong. Interior's not the best. The seller is asking 600 dollars for the truck (800 with new baja 31 mts) Anyone have any experience with finding/needing special parts for these trucks? Any known issues seperate from first gen pickups? The frame didn't look too bad on it...I found this truck an hour after I started looking so maybe i'm overanalyzing a good deal but I don't want to find myself in another money pit with my daily driver.

The guy really has no idea what he has and how rare it is...

financially even a 600 purchase is a huge blow to me right now, even to have a trekker. I want a DD first, collectible 4x4 second.

i'll call him tmrw and try and work something out, look for pics of the trekker within a week or so hopefully :)

I wouldnt hesitate on buying a trekker if i was ever able to find one. if the guy doesnt know what hes sitting on, maybe try and work him down with as many negative points as you can come up with. just a suggestion, good luck!

I've found that sometimes walking around looking at the vehicle without saying anything will sometimes make the seller nervous enought to start offering up deeper discounts.  It helps if you keep going back and re-checking problem areas too, makes them more nervous.  Some sellers, like some buyers, have a good poker face and will call your bluff, but some will fold like so much cheap oregame paper.

The seller is very firm on 600 dollars. It looks like I'll be bringing the Trekker home on Tuesday or Wednesday.
