Locktup's 4th Rebuild
« on: Mar 14, 2007, 09:18:07 PM »
It's under the knife again  :flamer:. To start with I pulled the old axle out. I going to keep it in the trailer for a backup. I'm building a new axle housing that will get new Longs, gear, locker and full hydro. The truck will sit on new 17" wheels and 39" BFG Sticky Crawlers. New paint and a few other things. I have to rebuild the rear links so the bigger tire don't rub. Lots of work to do before the Hammers. I have Casey105 helping out and I'm sure Snohman will pop in .
As it sits in the picture it has a frame hight of 28". I'm shooting for less.

I went to over to Adam Ant Creation  http://www.aa-fab.com/  to pick up a few things. Very nice shop. He cuts all his own tabs and brackets in house  :flamer:. This will save me a bunch of time.

Your toyota falls under one of my favorites baecause you do eveverything right, no short cuts fix things later, e.t.c. Can't wait to this thing after the rebuild!

Thanks guys :beerchug:

I'll have this TURD done Kyota.

I'm going to keep the axle for meow.

Heading down to the Hammers on the Tuesday before.

I got the new axle housing all done and I started placing the lower frame link mounts. I was gone all weekend so I only got about 4 hours on it today.

My Build 1986 4runner SAS 36s etc

"Later, I learned that even though I engage 4WD my hubs are not automatically locking? Something about manual locking hubs I think. What's manual mean? I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike

You know these stupid things are a never ending project.

Next year I may pull everything off and sell the body/interior/frame/exo and put all the other junk on a tube chassis Ive designed.

Thanks

It's just about done. The fenders, doors and hood got painted today. The rest of the truck goes in for paint on Saturday. I will be able to start it on Monday, wait for the hydro fluid to come in.
