I know, I'm a minority in this rant.

I'm with you. If you want more sun...get up earlier. We've got all the sun we need out here...besides, if we "save" sun won't that contribute to global warming?  :dunno:

 and what about the winter when you need more light in the evening in the first place. That never made any sense to me.
You have more daylight in the summer so you change the time to give you even MORE daylight, but in the winter, when it's dark at 5pm, you change the time so it's DARKER EARLIER!
How the EFF does this make sense?

Just another example of inane, intrusive, irresponsible government...IMHO.

I think it is funny how we as  a a society have chosen to manipulate time.  Personally, I think springing forward and falling back are both stupid.  just live with it!  Like MrsW said, if you want more daylight, get up earlier!

Yup still sucks and... IT DOES NOT SAVE ENERGY!
I hate DST :tantrum:

A recent study casts doubt on the effectiveness of the Energy Policy Act, which took effect in 2007. A comparison of electrical bills for Indiana residents over the past three years shows that daylight-saving time uses more energy than it was intended to save.

Matthew J. Kotchen, an economics professor at the University of California-Santa Barbara, and Ph.D. student Laura E. Grant picked Indiana because some of its counties do not practice daylight-saving time, allowing for better comparison.

What they found is that while the extended daylight hours did reduce indoor lighting, the costs of climate control devices escalated. The difference is more than offsetting, with the energy spent on heating and cooling totaling more than people would have spent on lighting.

Kotchen and Grant estimated that residents of Indiana counties complying with daylight-saving time spend an additional $8.6 million annually on electricity bills. On average, those households spent $3.19 more a month for electricity than households in counties exempt from daylight-saving time.

"I've never had a paper with such a clear and unambiguous finding as this," Kotchen said.

Gotta side with MWM & a few others on this (sorry, Nate  :gap:).  I don't need daylight when I'm trying to sleep.

I once heard that Ben Franklin started it all, to save candles  :dunno:.  I also heard it's to give farmers an extra hour to work their fields, but that makes no sense -- they work as daylight allows anyway, not by what the clock says...

It seems to me, if they want more daylight, it would make more sense to do it when you have the shortest days, not the longest.  :ack:

And from what they are talking about on the radio about this the farmers are the biggest opponents of DST.

As far as the Ben Franklin theory:

The prominent English builder and outdoorsman William Willett invented DST in 1905 during one of his pre-breakfast horseback rides, when he observed with dismay how many Londoners slept through the best part of a summer day. An avid golfer, he also disliked cutting short his round at dusk. His solution was to advance the clock during the summer months, a proposal he published two years later. He lobbied unsuccessfully for the proposal until his death in 1915; see Politics for more details.

Germany, its World War I allies, and their occupied zones were the first European nations to use Willett's invention, starting April 30, 1916. Britain, most of its allies, and many European neutrals soon followed suit; Russia and a few other countries waited until the next year; and the United States adopted it in 1918. Since then, the world has seen many enactments, adjustments, and repeals.
