I'm sure it's photoshopped whatever it's supposed to be. I really don't get what it is though.
But man, above and beyond the obviously photoshopped in abnormality of the wave, if that's a normal day at some surfing spot it looks more like rush hour traffic, how do they keep from running over each other?

Southern cali would have twice as many surfers in half as much water.  really not that many surfers in that picture.  not sure about the wave though, it could happen.

The video is from competition surfing, the waves are not sneaking up on them and taking them surprise as the first post suggests.

I'm not saying the wave isn't real, I've seen video's of people surfing those bigs waves before, I just wonder about the surfers perched on it, that's what seems like it is probably photoshopped.

those photo's are not photoshopped..its got a really shallow razor sharp reef and that wave is real..Laird Hamilton get's towed in by a sea-doo to ride these and he wares a life perserver just in case.seen it on the history channel..and most of thoses people are photographers

OK, that makes more sense. Like I said, what I thought was suspicious was the insinuation that these surfers were sitting there waiting a wave when this huge thing just snuck up on them.
I saw by the video that it looked like the wave runners were just off to the side of it.

It's just a matter of time before the picture gets circulated with an even more elaborate story tagged to it.
It just bugs the BEJESUS out of me when you have a perfectly good picture with a perfectly good and legitimate story to go along with it and someone has to twist it all into something it is not, and send it to everyone and their brother who then sends it to everyone and their brother, and ME so then I have to SNOPES it and send it back to everyone he CC'd, because he didn't know it is better to BCC when sending email to many multiple recipients, with an and the SNOPES disclaimer.
I've been Mythbusting since Jamie and Adam were barely a stain on the sheets.
