Marlin Clutch Like an on off switch
« on: Feb 15, 2007, 12:03:52 PM »
I recently installed a Marlin 1200 Ceramic clutch in my 83 P/U.  Install went great as easy as it gets.  It seems like the clutch is like an on off switch.  It doesn't engage smooth at all, it engages all at once.  Just wondering if this is normal?  sorry for the newb post!

Cheers,
83

should not have gotten a ceramic if you didnt want that on/off feel.
that is the nature of ceramic clutches, they dont like to slip.

Very true, You need to get the feel of it. You can release the clutch smoothly with a ceramic.

Bah, already in the truck, why hassle with it.  Just learn how to drive it.
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

Its going to take some getting used to and that I don't have a problem with.  I am most definately not going to take it out of my truck.  Once I get used to driving it I am sure I will love it.

In my opinion those cluthes are awesome off road!! Did you get the 1200 or the 1600?  I put the 1600 in my 92 and wow, good luck slipping it,  ive put 50,000 miles on it so far still feels like new and i have not had a single problem, its alittle stiff and took about a month to get use to, but it sure will prevent other people to want to drive your truck very often!! My woman drove it once, killed it about 10 times then said ta hell with that!  Hopefully i dont break my leg while out on the trails!!!

I bought the ceramic for my truck which is a DD but i also take it off road... is it still a good clutch for a DD/sometimes wheeler?? This truck will become an off road champ in a year or two, so would it be worth my time to send it back and get the down grade???

No, it is used.

As for ceramic disks (and even moreso for plucked disks), they are designed to have less slip.

We have a ceramic disk in our F-Toy and I have wheeled it many times and it slips fine enough for me.

It is definately something one needs to adjust to, especially when they were not expecting its level of performance.
