A few pictures for you guys...
This last summer before the timing chain tensioner went out on me. It is a 79 20r. In this picture I have 2wd f150 leaves in the rear minus 1 leaf with stock shocks that are fully extended in the picture with more room to go down with the front hanger moved forward about 3inches. A 2inch front drop hanger with stock springs.

Once I finally got it in the garage

The rebuilt head with lcengineering 44mm stainless steel intake valves and 36mm exhaust valves, hd valve springs, .440 lift cam

New timing chain set from lc engineering

Starting to put it back together. I need to clean up the engine bay a little. Hopefully the cam and valves will help the little 20R with the 38 weber that I need to get rid of

Now I just need to finish putting my leaf packs together, move the rears up front and  put the f150's in the rear. Install my IFS box and marlin highsteer. And then save up for some gears and lockers....

looks like my truck about 8 years ago, but mine was yellow.

yea  a 38 weber  is  too big  for a 20R,  but  if  that guy in georgia  doesnt swap  me  i'll swap  my 32/36  that was originally jetted  for a  hopped up 20R,  for your 38,  cause  my  3236  is  too small  for my  motor,   i need a 38  BAD

Thanks for the comments. I will post up some pictures when it's done. I hope do get it painted here pretty soon so I can get rid of the primer and surface rust.

Ok so I mocked up my long tube header and I am a little worried. It drops below the frame about an inch. Is anyone else running a long tube header? Have you had any problems snagging it on rocks or anything?

And here it sits below the frame....Should I run it or stick with my shorty header??

rednk1980

I'd stick with a shorty just because thats what i run in all my rigs I don't think you'd catch it on anything but the shorty tucks it up alot nicer.  :twocents:

I've never had any trouble hitting my long tube header, butt I don't do any real "hard core" rock crawling. just wheel to get where I want to go.
and get rid of that fram O/F now!
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

79toy20r

Yea I'm just using the fram for the first 500 miles for the break in of the new head and then I will change it out....I don't plan to do a lot of hard core rock crawling, but where we go there are a lot of "kelly humps" I was worried about catching it on them. So I just stuck with the shorty.

boggerunner

nice truck, and what is wrong with fram oil filters?

Axle truss welded on and painted

79toy20r

Finally got some time to get the front suspension sorted. Got the axle underneath it and the fj rotors with IFS calipers. Now I just have to get my steering box put on and weld on the shock hoops.

Looking good. Looks like you have to paint the body now that the under side is clean

Yea I wanted to finish up the drivetrain and then the body will get its share of love along with the interior.
Thanks for the comments guys

gtoyonrocks

I say don't worry about the body, maybe some primer. I took all of the interior out of my truck, it's a rock truck, and it looks like it. I guess differant strokes for differant folks
