Ive heard that the mounts are not the same and I wanted to maybe either go manual or find an older tranny as they are easier to find and cheaper
I should have made notice that this is for an 01 4runner, doing a 2wd to 4wd conversion.

From what I'm understanding, you're wanting to use a manual 5spd transmission in a truck that came w/ an automatic? B/c if you're wanting to get an auto from earlier than 01' to swap into an 01' automatic equipped truck, keep dreaming..... As it'll be an electrical nightmare. If you're going w/ a manual from an automatic, NO, the mounts aren't gonna be the same. That's not that big of a deal though. You'll need a flywheel instead of the flexplate, a clutch kit, the pedal assembly for a standard, cut the firewall for the clutch master cylinder, a clutch master and slave cylinders, hydraulic lines, and of course the manual transmission always helps
