Having a 12 second Honda is just like coming out of the closet; You're going to surprise a bunch of people, but in the end you're still gay.

i wish i could have your half doors.
dang they are pretty
You could  :yesnod:....being that I have far more time than money in my doors.

I probably have less than 100 bucks in materials in the doors since most of the material was left over stuff and lots of free stuff  :gap:.  If you just start building them they'll evolve slowly as you build them. That's pretty much how mine came about. If you end up buying stuff to build yours you just have to find the pieces as you can afford them. Or you can build the basic door and add to them later as well.

I have no doubt you can build yourself a cool set of doors. Give it a shot and see what you come up with. You just never know.  :beerchug:

Ok, here's something I made before MCR. Some of you have seen this up close and personal. I even showed it to Marlin at MCR. He seemed to like the idea.  :eyebrow:

Since I also had my quick release mud flaps made for MCR......... here they are.

1)  what I started with......ghetto extended flaps.  :gap:

2)  The bracket and mounting tube and pin set up.

3)  another shot of the tube

4)  a closer look at the welded assembly

5)  how they look from the back......still have room for a wider tire if I want.  :gap:

Bad news, when we went to use the on board compressor today, after we got off the trail, I got one tire aired up and the compressor just stopped and wouldn't turn anymore.   :o    :tantrum:  :maddest:

Thanks for such a detailed writeup.  You have some great ideas.  Best half-door ideas I've seen yet.  I'll definitely be using some of your ideas.  I'd love to get out to MCR this year, but I don't think my rig will be ready in time.
Kind words much appreciated!  :sly:  Glad you like my work!  8)  Unfortunately I missed the registration deadline for MCR this year and for the moment I'm not sure I will be going.    But if I still go it will be a last minute decision.  :gap:

Fortunately, I don't have a lot to do to my rig to get it there...just fix my OBA compressor (which would be nice but not totally necessary) and maybe some new tires if I can afford them before then. We'll see!  :crossed:

In any case, good luck with your build and hope you do get to make it to MCR it's a great trip! Lotsa good people and you get to meet the turtle man himself!

Got my replacement OBA compressor!   Chances of going to MCR just improved!  :gap: 8)   Now I need a more comfy seat and with any good luck at all maybe even a new set of tires.  :disturbed:

Hey fordh8r, why have you been hiding this build from me? :headscratch:

It's been almost a year since this was updated so I figured I'd post up

I looked through the entire thread! Awesome work man!! Also, regarding your 4WD shift rail interference on page 7 reply #198, our new XtremeDuty adapters fix this issue

I will keep an :eye: out for your truck at the Round Up good Sir!

Holy  :pokinit:! Are you ready for this?! An Update!  :rofl2:

Well, seeing as I hadn't posted any pics of my OBA system...here we go!

1)  I modified a factory A/C bracket to fit the 22R which was very quick and simple

2)  Then I made the Compressor mounting bracket with all the holes in all the right places for mounting.

3)  The compressor uses a couple of studs for the upper mounting (accessing the nuts isn't as difficult as it may seem)  :psss:

4)  Here you can see the clearances for the mounting hardware.  8)

Next...

1)  The belt sheave alignment

2)  Had to clearance this area for the motor mount

3) resulting clearance...

4)  a few more little massages and tweaks and we have a happy ending compressor that fits!  :suprised:

Then I used a D2 Bendix Governor, (not pictured) mounted to the inner fender, from a heavy duty truck to control the cut-in and cut-out pressures, installed a belt and used the stock belt tensioner on the A/C bracket for adjusting. Made some hose connections and it works like a charm!   :beerchug:

A somewhat crude drawing of the wiring and plumbing of the D2 Governor and how it ties in with the compressor clutch. It's really quite simple and far more compact and durable than any other set up out there since these are for over-the-road trucks. The red lines are the only air lines in the control system and the rest is wiring. You can see that one red line goes to the air tank and the other is where I installed a pressure gauge. The gauge, of course, can be plumbed pretty much anywhere.

Also, unlike the pressure control switches other people have used that are for a home compressors and aren't designed for this sort of environment under the hood these are built to be used in this way.  8)

Well, another little Oopsie I had last year at MCR...  :_oops:

1)  My mirror got stripped off and caused some slight damage to my door...

2)   Not a problem...I can fix that...   :gap:

:rofl2:   No, the real fix was to add some mirrors that might survive another close encounter of the granite kind as follows.  :cheese:

1)   First, some 1/2" steel tubing

2)  then some  :flamer: to a 3/8" bolt, insert bolt into another piece of said tubing. Drill hole for a roll pin in the bolt just below the
head. Position bolt and mark tubing for notches to be made for a detent.

3)  assemble bolt to lower tubing (after welding on a mounting flange) and install spring with a nylock nut to adjust tension and viola!
Swing away mirror mounts with a return detented position!  :booya:

What kinda mirrors am I using, you ask? Well, I'm glad you asked.  :gap:

1)  I just happened to have some HD (not High Def  :slap:, Harley Davidson ) Mirrors that fit the bill.

2)  They attach to the mount like this (pictured installed to door)  this is their detented position so they can't fall or swing away
     while driving

3)  Another installed view

4)  Swing away action for increased chances of survival in the jungle.  :gap:

Oh! Almost forgot....the total cost for making these mirror mounts was somewhere in the neighborhood of just under 20 bucks! Unless you have to go buy paint for this project.  :rofl2:
